Hipvite: iPhone Video App Review
If you’re in the market for an easier way to organize events on the go, you’ve just found the mother ship. It’s called Hipvite, and it is indeed one hip little app that comes to us from Clique App Inc. I think you’ll dig this title’s sleek organizational style and super easy event management interface. Read on to see if this app really is all that and a bag.
The Hipvite iPhone app is what I like to call a Facebook extension app. That means that this app’s functionality is powered by Facebook. You must give this app access to your Facebook account for it to work. Then the magic starts to happen.
Hipvite automatically syncs existing Facebook events to your iPhone. It even updates your calendar, if you want it to. Then you have an option to import an event to Hipvite to unlock extra features, like a sharable wall that attendees can post photos and comments to. The app also lets you check in (it also checks you in on Facebook) and can pull up directions with a single click of a button.
Feature-wise, I think Hipvite has a slight advantage on plain ole Facebook events. I love that the app lets you invite any of your contacts, not just your Facebook connections. Folks without the app can get in on the fun via a custom event website. The app’s also just plain easier to use. More about the app’s awesome user interface after the cut. I did find myself waiting for the app to pull content sometimes, which was kind of annoying.
Layout & Design:
Like all things hip, the Hipvite iPhone app believes brevity is best. This app is rocking one super simple, chic-as-heck design. I absolutely love it. There is a single side tab you can access that brings you face to face with your profile, your events, the create event interface and the settings menu. Accessing event info is quite a snap. Simply touch the event. All your options are right there.
There’s definitely a subtle hand at work in the Hipvite app design. I don’t think I’ve ever used an app that was quite this easy and uncomplicated. No, it isn’t pink and sparkly, but it does seriously deliver.
As an app, it’s hard to be the free price tag Hipvite’s rocking these days. As a utility, I have my reservations. Although the app is super well designed, and intelligently executed too, I just don’t think it will have a huge pull. It is, for all intents and purposes, a Facebook events app. And the Facebook app already lets you manage your events on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
I think this app is great, and hope it builds some steam, because the non-Facebook contact additions and web access are top notch features that Facebook just doesn’t have. Here’s hoping, you hopelessly hip app.
Hipvite iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
