People have always been told that eating vegetables and staying away from junk food is good for you. However, those words of advice are quite the opposite with the Food Frenzy! app from developer Global Whirl LLC is just the game app for you! It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and runs on iOS 4.0 or later.

When the user first loads the Food Frenzy! app, they are prompted with five options: “Play”, “Store”, “Credits”, “Game Center”, and “View Leaderboard”.  The basic premise of the game is that the user needs to help the main boy character eat as much junk food items as he can without touching any kind of healthy foods such as lettuce or lettuce wrapped junk foods. The user will have to touch the character’s tongue and hold down, and move in the incoming direction of the foods and snag whatever junk foods he can get and rack up as many points at the same time. Some junk foods are worth more points than others. If the character’s tongue gets in contact with a lettuce or lettuce wrapped junk food, then the game is officially over. The user can also add additional bonuses to the game play, such as point amplifiers and time frame extenders by making in app purchases via the app store. The next game level can be unlocked once the user reaches a specific point minimum in order to advance.

The overall appearance of Food Frenzy! is decent. With bright colors and cartoon-like graphics, the game will be sure to attract attention. Although the images are a bit flat, with the added animation and cute food graphics, that should not deter users from continuously playing the app.  The background music and sound effects of this app fit perfectly well with the game play and are non-distracting.

For Food Frenzy! being offered for 99 cents is not a bad deal. It may not be the most unique game available in the market today, but the concept is creative, and the ironic twist of “vegetables being bad for you while junk food keeps you alive” would appeal to users of all ages and backgrounds. The game play and goal is simple, and may get repetitive, but it can still prove to be a challenge, especially when you are not ready for the unexpected piece of lettuce to fly by.

Food Frenzy! iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. The iPhone app reviews rating: [Rating: 4/5]
