Folder+: iPhone App Written and Video Review
Do you have a load of . . . sensitive photos that you’d rather weren’t seen freely on your iPhone? On the flip side, do you just like to keep some of your notes and contacts private from the rest of the world? If so, then you’re in luck: Folder+ by developer Aake Gregertsen provides a quick and fully encrypted way to store and secure all of your iPhone’s media. It comes with a wealth of additional features to prevent accidental or deliberate intrusion, and all in all, Folder+ is easily one of the best storage methods in the App Store. For our full review of the app, you need only to slide on down below the break.
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind Folder+ is pretty blissfully simple: The app allows you to create your very own private drive, which you can then password encrypt with whatever code you like. Once locked down, all of the media within the drive is copied and encrypted using AES 256 bit encryption. For those not in the know, that means it’s really hard to get at.
Best of all, the drive you create within Folder+ doesn’t limit you much on what can be stored. You’re free to put in photos, contacts, videos, notes, and even browse the Internet using the in-app private browser. Want a bit more protection for your stuff? Sure thing! The app comes with a decoy account which you can setup to prevent individuals from accessing your proper drive. The app will also provide you with intrusion alerts when someone attempts to access your data. Overall, with a wealth of media options and even more security features to work with, Folder+ is a solid way to keep your media on the down-low.
Design and Graphics
Best of all, the app looks pretty slick, too! Sure, it’s more or less an amalgamation of all the other stock iOS applications—the photo gallery looks almost identical, as does the notes section—but considering we like those apps, why would we complain? Furthermore, setting up a drive takes about two whole minutes, if even. In other words, it looks good, it’s quick to manage, even quicker to secure, and fast on the access. All of which are qualities we look for in a secure media drive for the iPhone.
At the end of the day, Folder+ is free, which obviously makes it a tremendous value. However, it also comes with the option to upgrade its features even more via in-app purchases. We like this setup, and if you’ve been hunting for just such a drive to take care of your sensitive information, then you might aught to give this free option a whirl. You’ve got nothing to lose, and we have a feeling you might just walk away impressed.
Folder+ requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
