B4iGo Movement Reminders: Written iPhone App Review
Are you sick of that “Oh no!” feeling that comes from forgetting important things, such as picking up a friend, feeding your pet or finishing a project? Those regretful moments are a thing of the past now that there’s B4iGo Movement Reminders from OutbackApp. This simple yet effective app can be set up to automatically remind you when it’s time to do something as soon as your iPhone moves an inch. Let’s see how the app holds up to a little healthy critique.
With the B4iGo Movement Reminders iPhone app, you set up custom messages and even custom recordings with reminders. These can be anything you want, from “Don’t forget to pick up the mail,” to “Presentation is due tomorrow!” It’s really up to you.
How does it work? You create the reminder, or use one of the pre-created ones in the app. Then, you touch the start button. Then whenever your iPhone is moved, like when you pick it up to go, your reminder will pop up on the screen and the app will either play your custom reminder or whatever tone you’ve selected from the app. You can also toggle a vibration feature on and off, just in case you don’t hear the reminder.
This is a pretty cool concept, and I love that there’s a free version of the app, which we are reviewing. However, I was a little disappointed by the sensitivity of the alarm. I even went in and adjusted the sensitivity, to see if I could slip the iPhone into my pocket or purse, but it was no use. The second the phone slid into my pocket or my purse jiggled even the littlest bit, the reminder was triggered. Unfortunately, that means this app is only useful as long as the iPhone remains perfectly still, which just isn’t realistic.
Layout & Design:
Simplicity is sometimes best, and that appears to be the path the developers of B4iGo Movement Reminders were treading. It takes a single touch to set the currently selected reminder, and a single touch to stop it. The app organizes the reminder interface, list of reminder messages and settings in a simple series of bottom tabs that are easily accessible at all times. You can even see the current reminder, or create a new one, right from the start/stop page.
That being said, this app isn’t horribly sophisticated in design. It could use a bit of a facelift. I found the graphics surrounding the start/stop interface confusing. It looks like they would stand for timers, but they don’t do anything. Simple and sleek is one thing, but this app lacks a bit of ease that could go a long way toward making it look professional.
As I mentioned earlier, we reviewed the free version of B4iGo Movement Reminders, but there is a paid version. The paid version allows for longer reminder recordings, contains more comical sounds to choose from and removes all advertisements from the app. Either way, you get a full featured app.
I’ll have to say, for a free app especially, B4iGo Movement Reminders is really cool. It serves a clear purpose and can help improve your life. With a few tweaks, this app could be much better. I hope we see more of this awesome app in the future!
B4iGo Movement Reminders iPhone app requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
