Timmy Tickle: iPhone Written App Review
Just when I think I’ve seen it all, an app like Timmy Tickle comes along. This iPad eBook app from Harriet Pellereau and the folks at Nimblebean is a sterling example of all that is good in the children’s app genre. It is superbly designed, full of delightful surprises, and sure to please. Let’s see how the latest round of updates translates in this adorable app for kids.
The Timmy Tickle iPad app is designed to enchant and entertain children ages 2 – 4. I think this app has some serious star appeal. From the cutting edge graphics (more about that after the cut) to the engaging storyline that makes every page an adventure, Timmy Tickle sets itself apart from the competition in almost every way.
Timmy Tickle introduces kids to a playful octopus, aptly named Timmy. As the story progresses, kids will count, play, learn about balance, practice nursery rhymes and so much more. The devs pulled out all the stops when it came to this app, right down to the voice work, done by West End star Gina Beck of Wicked.
It’s also the kind of app that puts parents and their concerns first. The Timmy Tickle app tucks any links that might lead kids astray out of the way, and constantly encourages parents for feedback. I’ll tell you firsthand, watching a three year old play with this app is a ton of fun. The revamp includes a set of coloring pages you can save to your photo album, and a long list of improvements, positive reinforcement chimes, new games and tons of other adjustments. Parents, even if you’ve had this app in the past, it’s time to take another look at Timmy Tickle.
Layout & Design:
When it comes to graphics, Timmy Tickle rolls out the red carpet. The quality and vibrancy of every page of this app is simply astounding. My only slight critique here is that sometimes the animations that are started by a touch are a bit jagged. If a child touches twice, for example, it can seem to stall out the app a bit. But otherwise, I found this app as beautiful and glossy as possible.
There’s even a new iPhone version of this app with a sweet price tag. I was pleased to see links for feedback, Facebook and other out of app navigation all tucked neatly away on an info page that’s almost impossible for kids to access once they’ve begun playing the app. Smooth move, Nimblebean.
Timmy Tickle for the iPad and iPhone come in at two extremely affordable prices. For the iPhone, the app is just $.99, while the iPad version is $1.99. Either way, you can’t lose with this app. It’s beautiful, smart, engaging, endearing and, most of all, just plain fun for kids. I think Timmy Tickle is a steal at $1.99, and encourage parents looking for high quality apps to invest in this beauty immediately.
Timmy Tickle iPhone app requires iOS 4.1 or later and is compatible with iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
