Slots Planet: Written iPhone App Review
Ready to go slot crazy? You will be, as soon as you get sucked in to the super-addictive new app from Ola Games called Slots Planet. This title combines slot-style casino action with an in-app charm system and series of bonuses you won’t find anywhere else. But is all that flashy fun enough to keep this game on top? Our iPhone app review of Slots Planet reveals all.
In case you’re not familiar with the concept of slots or slot machines, the idea is to place your bet then let the slots roll. If you get three or more of a certain item in a row, it’s a win, and your bank total goes up. If you get nothing, your bet goes to the house, your total cash balance goes down and it’s on to the next roll of chance.
Of course, in an iPhone app like Slots Planet, this basic, yet extremely addictive, gaming concept is used and built on in fun new ways. Each line of slot results in Slots Planet can be manipulated by using charms to pause, move, slow or freeze the results of one roll to add them in on the next roll. As a result, this game is definitely a bit more strategy-laden than its Vegas constituents.
Also, the game is organized by land in a cool planet-style game board. Every roll you make goes towards your experience points, and the higher your level, the more cool locations you can unlock and access to play the slots. There are also tons of in-app mini games and bonuses. You can even go double or nothing on some of your rolls, which is very fun. That being said, it does take a ton of time to make headway in this game, and there’s a serious pay-to-play model being pushed here, but more about that after the cut.
Layout & Design:
Slots Planet is mocked up in cheerful, charming farm-friendly designs, at least to start with. As you progress through the game and unlock new locations your background and rolls will change, which is really very nice. I do wish there was a bit more variety up front, but it’s still a pleasing enough design and interface.
What got annoying rather quickly was the app’s “hint” system, which is designed to encourage you to burn up your given charms and go buy more as soon as possible. The game also subjects you to advertisements every time you level up (making it decidedly not kid-friendly, despite the wholesome motif) and asks you repeatedly to go rate it.
Downloading and installing the Slots Planet iPhone app is entirely free. You even start the game with a healthy enough pot of gold so you can enjoy the app for a while before you have to start fretting about your cash situation. That being said, the game itself is so geared towards making you spend money that it’s exhausting. The only alternative is to put off the game’s “hint” system (the only way I could stand playing the game for more than a few minutes), and play smart. If you wait for the clock and collect strategic bonuses, and play carefully with your given charms, it is possible to enjoy the game without spending a bundle. Again, this app is not going to be good for kids due to its pay-to-play bone structure. But if you’re an adult who loves the feeling of putting down money and letting chance run amok, then have at it. This casino-style app is bright, fun and plenty smart.
Slots Planet iPhone app requires iOS 4.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
