PaceDJ: Written iPhone App Review
Whether you are running, jogging, brisk walking, or cycling a little music helps you get the exercise done more efficiently. The PaceDJ app from developer Pacing Technologies, LLC will make sure that you keep up to your desired speed of exercise. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and runs on iOS 4.3 or later.
When the user first loads PaceDJ, they will be prompted with a message basically stating that the purpose of the app is to match songs from the user’s device music library to the pace of their choice of exercise. By selecting the “Next” button, the app will let the user know how many songs the user can create a playlist with. The user will then select a specific playlist they want to import, whether it is all of the songs available or a specific pre-created playlist. Upon selection, the user will also be asked if they want the shuffle the songs on their playlist or not.
The user will start with a default tempo of 140 beats per minute (BPM) can set the target pace for their exercise in beats per minute (BPM). They can also tap on the “thumbs up” and thumbs down” icons to vary the music mix. If a particular song has an incorrect BPM, the user can alter it by tapping out the beat of the drum. The user will then be prompted to select their activity whether it is running, walking, cycling, or another type of exercise. Any of these options can be further altered in the settings function on the play screen.
Please note that the user needs to have access to internet connection in order for the app to work properly.
Appearance and Layout:
The overall appearance of PaceDJ is basic and simplistic so that the functions become the primary focus. Although the beginning prompt instructions can be considered overwhelming, it is excellent for first time users to become familiar with the app and its features rather quickly. It doesn’t have any fancy graphics or sound effects because it just needs access to the user’s music library on their device to get them moving.
For PaceDJ being offered for $1.99 is a great deal. It’s beneficial and easy to use, and is a great motivation for those who really don’t enjoy exercising or have been slacking in that department. It is functional for users of all ages and would appeal to even those who aren’t that savvy with electronics.
