One of the things we talk most about here at the iPhone App Review is the untapped potential for technologies like iOS to really change the way we work and live. With so many cool and inventive apps coming out, the future is looking more and more mobile, and MedXCom for Patients by developer Giffen Solutions is no different. The app offers patients a unique and simple way to upload their medical history. send their information to practices, and even alert their doctors when an emergency occurs. All in all, it’s a cool idea and an even better app. To find our full review, though, you’ll need to scroll on down below the break!

Concept and Functionality

As stated, MedXCom is intended to be an all-in-one resource for patients like you that just want to get their information to their health providers quickly and without a lot of fuss. The app does this by creating a network of patient-doctor applications and services for you and your doctor to draw from. It works something like this:

If your practice has signed up for services through MedXCom, then you can log-in as a patient, fill in some basic heath information (or your entire health history, if you’d like) and then simply attach your neighborhood doctor to your account. With that done, your doctor has immediate access to your records, and even events that occur. You can list yourself as in the hospital or in the ER, and your doctor will be alerted immediately. Best of all, with a practice associated with your account, your doctor can edit and improve your health profile directly from their side of the equation. In other words, it has never been simpler or more convenient to keep accurate health records, thanks to MedXCom.

Design and Interface

Compared to what the practitioner’s side of the coin looks like, the MedXCom for Patients app is a snap. We had no problem navigating its menus, nor creating our health profile. In fact, it took only a matter of minutes, and then we were finished with the whole process. We haven’t even got much to complain about in terms of design. The app is a polished and well-rounded example of what can be done with the platform, and with its ease-of-use, we have every bit of faith it will find a home in both offices and homes.

Overall Value

Yes, MedXCom does cost money. But now for you! If you’re a patient, you haven’t got any concerns at all: Download the app for free, fill-in your information, and you’re set to roll. Assuming your doctor also uses the app—or can be so persuaded—you’ve just earned a free and convenient way to streamline your health life. And to us, that’s an incredible value right there.

MedXCom for PatientsMedXCom requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.

    Great review, thanks
Our new version of the app is out now.
You don’t need a doctor on the system or go through the profile to use it.
I allows you to use the medication reminder system, invite doctors by adding them to your team. Even if they don’t use the system, select them from a complete AMA list and MedXCom will contact them to join for free. The docs can now use it for free too if they just want to securely communicate with their patients. They only have to pay if they use the entire telecom piece which takes over their answering service for them.
The version after this one will be even better, but I can’t give it all away yet.
    Thanks again,
    Michael

They have a new feature on the app called Safe Bumping. You go to your doctor and get checked for STDs. Then when you meet someone in a bar, you bump phones with them which allows you to exchange contact info but also that fact that you’re both STD free. Very cool and a lot of fun. It should spread virally.
