Magnifier 3in1: iPhone Written Apps Written
Let’s face it. Our eyes, they just ain’t what they once were! We’re getting older, but now, thanks to the wonders of new technology, we might yet escape the bifocals and squinted eyes approach. You see, using nothing but our iPhones and a brilliant application called Magnifier 3in1 by developer Falcon in Motion, we can take a long hard look at just about anything out there. The app works especially well with text, but combining a number of unique features, you’ll get a lot more use than just that out of it. For our full review, just check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, Magnifier 3in1 is intended to be a visual aide for those who just can’t quite see what it is they’re doing. The app uses your iPhone or iPad’s built-in camera to get the job done. So, let’s imagine a scenario: You’re faced with a dim menu in a restaurant. You can’t see what you’re bloody ordering, so you whip out Magnifier 3in1, and point the thing at your menu. The light on your iPhone turns on, and the app magnifies the text. You may not look the classiest ever, but you can be sure that you’ll know what you’re reading. If you’re still having trouble, the app will go into “high contrast” mode, which turns the black text to white letters, making them easier to see still. Add into this mix a tap to freeze function, whereby you tap the screen to take a quick “photo.” Zoom, slide and drag your way around this freeze to get a long hard look at that which you’re trying to see. It’s really quite inventive, and much better than any magnifying glass we’ve given out at a 40th birthday party.
Design and Interface
As much as we like the functionality that Magnifier 3in1 is offering, we have to admit that we aren’t it’s biggest design fans. This is not to say, however, that the app is bad-looking! In fact, it does its job quite admirably. But, it does look very spartan, and it makes use of a lot of stock iOS elements. In this way, it isn’t the most terribly inventive app we’ve ever seen, but like a good magnifying glass, you won’t notice the interface: No distractions mean good performance, after all.
For a dollar, we have no doubt that Magnifier 3in1 can save you a lot of time and heartache spent trying to peep hard-to-read menus. It’s quick, it’s functional, and it comes with more than enough features to keep us satisfied. All in all, if you find yourself squinting a bit more than you might like, save yourself some time by getting a copy of Magnifier 3in1 now, rather than later.
Magnifier 3in1 requires iOS 3.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
