London Games Explorer: iPhone App Video and Written Review
If you’re like us, then you’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening ceremony for this year’s Olympic Games. Sure, there’s a bit of national pride involved (For Queen and Country!) but mostly we’re just happy to see so many of the world’s greatest athletes arriving in one place to prove what the human body can do. With that in mind, if you’re looking for the single best Olympic app to appear yet, you might aught to go with London Games Explorer by developer Cadability. It’s got a whole lot of information, a schedule that’s absolutely brilliant, and more than enough perks to make it worth every penny. For our full review, you need only to slide on down below the break.
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind London Games Explorer is pretty blissfully simple: It aims to be an all-in-one resource for your Olympic needs, covering everything from the history of past games to the timing and scheduling of upcoming events. You’ll get everything you need out of the app, but in case you’re looking for specifics, you’ll find them below:
To begin with, the dashboard page of London Games Explorer displays all the latest news, some trivia information, and even a medal prediction. From there you can select the schedule tab to view a day-by-day report of what events will be held. To be honest, this feature alone makes the app worth purchasing, as it saves you a trip to Google every day. You’ll also get a Stars tab which offers biographical information about some of the most popular athletes—it’s really quite cool to glance through, we promise. And lastly, you’ll History and More panels to deliver you records, videos, pictures, and copious information about past Olympics and results. All in all, the app truly does cover all of its bases.
Graphics and Design
We’ll be the first to admit it, too: The app looks damn good on the iPhone. It’s got an excellent design that makes heavy use of tabbed navigation. Everything about its look is sleek and polished, with one noticeable exception: The USA and Russian flags have been swapped. We’re not sure how that error slipped through the cracks, but a quick update will sort that right out, mates. Aside from this, we’re hard pressed to find any errors in the design or layout of London Games Explorer.
If London Games Explorer were a simple schedule for the games, we’d say it were overpriced at three bucks in the App Store. But as it contains so much information and additional resources, there’s no reason in the world to blink twice at the price. This app is a tremendous value, and we really can’t recommend it enough for those with an extreme interest in the upcoming games. No matter who you support, you should download London Games Explorer.
London Games Explorer requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
