Dertix: Written iPhone App Review

Reviewed by Philip Chan

Are you a fan of the classic game Tetris? Then you might want to check out the Dertix app from developer Hussain Barakat. It is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad, and runs on iOS 4.3 or later.

The Dertix game app is basically the equivalent of the classic game Tetris. It has the same premise where colored blocks of various shapes and sizes will fall and the user will have to somehow alter the direction of the blocks to make them fit into lines of layers to keep the layers from building up and filling the screen. As levels increase, so will the speed of the falling blocks. In this particular game, the user will have to hold and drag the selected blocks down to where they want the blocks to land. If they want to alter the direction that the blocks are situated then they will simply tap on the blocks to rotate the blocks in the desired way. Sometimes the actions can be kind of tricky because if the user taps too quickly instead of moving the blocks down they might instead change the rotation of the blocks.

Appearance and Layout:

Dertix iPhone App Review

The overall of appearance of Dertix is okay. The graphics are not anything fancy, and are flat looking. Layout and navigation is simple, since the premise of the game is very similar to Tetris. The look of this game is not so appealing, and users might be disappointed once they actually start playing the game and realize how non-advanced the graphics are.  However, the main menu and background music is pretty entertaining and in a way somewhat soothing.

The overall of Dertix is so-so. For a game app that is not so unique, or at least could have additional bonuses for being a spin-off of a super popular classic game, it should be offered for 99 cents or even for free. If the graphics and style were a little more advanced and appealing, then the probability of more users purchasing this game app might increase. However, it does not seem very likely that users will be clamoring to purchasing this app especially since there are many similar game apps out available on the market (including the original Tetris game) offered at a cheaper price or at least with better game play appearance appeal.

Dertix iPhone app requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. The iPhone app reviews rating: [Rating: 3/5]

  1. LOL! Great honest review. I have the Tetris game and it’s great and looks great. I wouldn’t bother with anything other than Tetris. If someone comes out with a “pissed off birds” game that looks like angry birds I’ll probably not buy that either. To each his own i guess.
