(5/3/13) Editor’s Note – the developer states that the app has been updated numerous times and recently the app have been changed drastically starting from app icon to core functionalities. there are now more than 10 categories and more than 500 new stickers to choose from)
Are you a fan of horror movies or thillers? Ever wanted to add similar scary effects to your photos, like you see in movies and film? Camera Hoax, a new image editing app from developer Armen Nikoghosyan, allows the user to do just that!
Simply load up the app and choose your photo source. You can either use photos from your gallery, or take photos using your built-in camera on your iOS device. It’s important to note that Camera Hoax requires devices running 5.0 or later, and is compatible with iPad, iPhone 3GS or later, and iPod Touch 3rd Gen or later. Once you’ve selected a photo, you can choose from the various special effect images (referred to as stickers) to apply to the image. These range from monsters to animals to aliens and more. Despite having all these effects (with more on the way according to the developer), the app only takes up 3.7 mb of space on your device. Overall, Camera Hoax isn’t exactly jam-packed with features, but it does have plenty of image manipulation images to choose from and allows for easy editing of your photos with humorous effects.
The actual stickers (overlayed images) for Camera Hoax actually look quite realistic and frightening! They adjust well for use in various photos, resulting in some surprising image edits. The app has a pretty nice selection of images, ranging from the extraterrestrials to supernatural and much more (tigers!). Throw these images onto your photos or take a new photo with your iOS’s device camera and you’ll see just how creepy the effects of Camera Hoax can be! Armen has also created a memorable Camera Hoax signature icon, complete with a cartoon ghost, as seen on the iTunes page or the main website. Finally, the developers also have a nice support website, with areas for users to tell their stories about tricking friends, to add new stickers from users, and more. It’s great to see a developer incorporating this much user-generated content into their website, I really like that!
I really can’t find much to complain about with Camera Hoax. It’s a pretty simply app, but it is available for free, and it has some fairly high-quality graphics to overlay on photos. Furthermore, the developers appear dedicated to incorporating feedback from users and in adding user-created stickers to the app, through the support website. For users looking to really edit photos with some out-of-this-world special effect stickers, Camera Hoax is definitely one to consider.
Camera Hoax iPhone app requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up publication of this review. The iPhone App Review rating:
