Wacky WordSearch Premium: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, there are a few things we absolutely suck at. One of those just happens to be word searches. We’ve never been good at them, at least not as long as we can remember, but that doesn’t mean we fail to give them a go every now and then! In fact, we rather like the things: They just don’t like us. So if you’re looking for a new word searching application to add to your iPhone repertoire, look no further than Wacky WordSearch Premium by developer Mobivention. The app provides a fun and detailed way to create word searches in multiple languages, making it our new word search favorite. And for our full review, you need only to skip on down below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
If you have ever before played a word search game in your life, then you have a pretty good handle on how Wacky WordSearch works. You tell the app to create a board full of letters and words, and away the thing goes! You’re presented with the finished concoction, which you must then drag your finger across to peg words where they are. It’s simple, effective brain exercising made even easier by the iPhone’s touch screen. In other words, we love it.
The game also comes with quite a few additional items to keep things spicy. For instance, there are two unique game modes, one that has you playing in a more tradition way, and another that has you racing against time. We liked both, but regardless, we really liked the ability to change the game board itself. We can modify the background to something we prefer, or we can even change the physical size of the offering for a bigger—no pun intended—challenge. This added a lot of replay value in our eyes.
Design and Graphics
Our only real complaint with Wacky WordSearch has to do with the way the app looks: It just isn’t our favorite. That’s not to say that anything about the app is bad, or even dysfunctional, but rather it simply isn’t the best looking word search application that we’ve seen on the iPhone. A good couple of hours with a professional graphic designer could easily square away our small quibbles (bounding box for words, smoother dragging animations, etc.) in a jiffy. However, future updates could very easily add this functionality to the mix.
And at the end of the day, Wacky WordSearch is definitely a bargain at only two bucks in the App Store. We’d get behind that price any day, and with a whole lot of content tucked away here, Wacky WordSearch is an easy recommendation. If you’re a fan of these puzzles and want a bit more time with them, Wacky WordSearch is easily your new excuse to do so.
Wacky WordSearch requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
