Top 5 iPhone and iPad Apps of the Week
The Amazing Spider-Man – $6.99
Have you been itching to get your sweaty, spider-crazed hands on a bit of the new Spider-Man-flavored movie’s action? Better yet, do you want that fun to arrive to you on either your iPhone or your iPad? If so, then saddle up and get ready to be swinging from the high-rises, gaucho! Gameloft just dropped their companion iOS game to the new movie, and we have to admit, it’s pretty slick.
The game is a pretty generic movie-gone-game, but you’ll still have a blast playing it. It’s got all the web-slinging mad-swinging action you could hope for, as well as plot from the movie and all the villains you could choke an horse with. The price is certainly high, but if you’re willing to part with seven bucks, it’s a good way to do it.
Blogsy – $4.99
Swapping gears a bit now, we wanted to talk about Blogsy for a second. The application has long been pushing the boundaries of exactly what you can or cannot create using your iPad, focusing on all those blog and website management tools that have been floating around the Net. We’ve even used it in the past to write our posts for this site. Well, with the latest update, they’ve sweetened the pot even more.
For the busy, iPad-toting professional, the newest update now brings you support for Joomla, which has actually been around but not officially licensed until now, as well as SquareSpace. We’re more excited about the latter, but no matter, we’re still keen on the latest performance enhancing extras and endless, endless creative freedom. This cheap (relatively speaking) app just keeps getting better and better!
Kingdom Rush – $0.99
If you’re like us, then you’re an incredibly large fan of the long-standing iOS classic genre, the tower defense. We’ve watched the wee little category grow up alongside our beloved iPhone, and during that time we’ve seen it go from totally awesome to downright terrible. There are still some gems to be had, though, most notably our new found glory, Kingdom Rush.
The app is appropriately priced, and comes with a whirl of excellence. It’s got all the complexity, the depth in units, and the incredible graphics that you could hope for. So if you’ve been itching to try out a brand new, and inexpensive, TD game on your iPhone, you really can’t do much better than this one. New updates will hopefully bring along even more benefits, to boot.
War of the Words Apocalypse – Free
We’re absolutely in love with word games, but even we have to admit that, if you have the wrong title in your hands, the whole thing can get a bit boring. We’re not going to admit that to our friends, but at least you lot know. Either way, you can stave off the boredom, save a few pennies, and improve the quality of your life tenfold by going ahead and downloading War of the Words Apocalypse.
The application is like Scrabble on crack, delivering a world of turn-based, word-fueled gameplay that’s just about like nothing else we’ve ever seen. There’s a lot to love here, and with online multiplayer and the potential for some real friendship-steamed rivalry, we think you’ll actually have a wordy title that your friends will want to play. We can’t make any promises, but you should certainly check this one out while it’s still free.
Filmic Pro – $3.99
This is a personal interest of ours, as we’ve been following Filmic Pro since before it was even released on the App Store market. It’s got a long history of being by far the most professional iPhone shooting application ever devised, and we have to admit, it just keeps getting better and better. The app comes with a decent price tag, and if you’re looking to shoot legitimately short-film worth shots from your iPhone, we really can’t recommend any other app. It’s got all the professional twists you’ll want as a captain of the industry. And with the latest update, we have even less of an hard time imagining you’ll be able to create some truly stunning works of art.
