The Vixes: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to see a lot of applications aimed at children. That’s not something we really complain about: We think the educational potential of iOS is easily one of the coolest things about our iPhone and our iPad. However, it does mean that we’re something of experts when it comes to children’s applications on iOS. As such, we’re tickled pink to introduce you today to The Vixes by developer Brite Kids. The app offers a unique, professionally narrated story, endearing graphics, and a price tag that won’t make the parents unhappy. So if your interest has been piqued, you need only to continue on down below the break to see our entire review!
Concept and Functionality
When we look at applications aimed at children, we tend to see two distinct categories. One of those is something we like to call the animated children’s eBook. And The Vixes falls very squarely under this heading. The application tells the story of how dreams are made using two, cute Vixes, or dream producing creatures that live in their own, night-powered world. The app walks us through portions of their lives, entertaining your children with cute anecdotes, brilliant graphics (more on that in a second) and pleasant narration. The app itself is more or less a direct adaptation of a traditional book to the iPhone and iPad. It comes with chapters that can be scrolled through like the pages of a book. However, there’s a lot more to this than a traditional print media. For example, there’s narration that will read the story to your children. Not only that, but each page is rife with lively animations and clickable elements to entertain the younglings. It’s a brilliant mix, and we have no doubts that your children will be endlessly entertained.
Design and Artwork
Best of all, the animations and art style are simply gorgeous. We loved the character animations, as well as the plethora of items that we can click on within each page. There are quite a lot of pages to work through, as well, in case you were worried about attention-grabbing content. The narration is spot-on too, which is not often the case with these sorts of applications. All in all, The Vixes is an extremely professional package holding an entire world of fun for your children to play through. And that, friends, is what this genre of application is really all about.
Considering The Vixes also only costs two dollars in the App Store, there’s absolutely no reason not to snag it for your children today. It’s a wonderful mixture of animation, storytelling and interactive fun, and only for the cost of half a Starbucks latte. So if you’re looking for a new bedtime story for your kids, we humbly suggest that you start with The Vixes. Special Note: In honor of Children’s Day celebration, taking place in the most countries at the 1st of June (Friday), Vixes HD is only $0.99 for that day and Vixes is free for the following three days.
The Vixes requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
