Skqueak: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to see a whole lot of new entires into the field of social media and social networking. However, we don’t mention that to complain about it—quite the opposite! We enjoy seeing what new and clever concepts developers are coming up with, which is why we’re stoked to introduce you today to Skqueak by developer Pelfunc. The app offers a unique concept that allows its users to share meaningful images, complete with audio and illustration. And for our full review of the app, you need only to slide on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, Skqueak is very much in-line with the sort of traditional photo sharing experience that we’re used to seeing on the iPhone. What does that mean? Well, it basically means that you can take a photo or select one from your photo gallery, and then share it instantly with all the other users on Skqueak. You can also link directly to your Skqueaks via Twitter, Facebook or email. So what makes your Skqueak experience different? At the end of the day, it’s the extras.
The app doesn’t just let you share photos, but instead allows you to draw on them in a live recording, creating cool annotations as you go along. You can also record your own voice telling the viewer something about the photo. This may be a simple holiday greeting to the masses, or perhaps even a deeply romantic message to your lover. With Skqueak, it’s really up to you! And no matter where your image ends up, you can rest assured that it’s got your personal touches thanks to the app’s suave photo editing tools.
Design and Interface
One of the things we’re most concerned about in each and every social media start-up is population. However, within Skqueak, we had no problems finding photos that others had posted, nor gaining an audience for our own work! There’s quite an healthy community to be found here, which is a definite boon. The interface itself is just alright: It’s neither the worst nor the best we’ve seen. It’s very functional, but we still feel like the cold blacks and greys could be swapped out for some more engaging colors and Web 2.0 inspired menus. However, that is just our personal opinion.
And as a free application in the App Store, it’s certainly hard to argue with the Skqueak value! If the whole concept sounds like something you’d like to explore, then by all means: Jump right on it and give it a go! We think it’s a brilliant start, and as the app develops, we can only imagine great things in Skqueak’s future. With that in mind, there’s no better time to jump on the bandwagon than now.
Skqueak requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
