Mmmh…: iPhone App Written Review
If you’re like us, than you have one hell of a time making a decision. There’s just something about needing to put two and two together that makes the big moments in life an unbelievable task to sort through. If that sounds familiar, than boy have we ever got the app for you! It’s called Mmmh… and it’s by developer Life Changing Apps. The app has one goal, and one goal only—to help you make big decisions by using your own data, your own brain, and your own power. It’s a great thought, and if your curiosity has been piqued, you need only to skip on down below the break to view our whole review!
Concept and Functionality
So how on earth does Mmmh… allow you to quickly and easily make decisions based on your own thoughts? It may sound like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, but it’s really quite simple. The app gives you one big spreadsheet which you must fill-in. You start by identifying the decision that needs to be made at the top. Then, you carefully start entering options underneath. You’re free to include as many of these as you want, really. Once you’ve filled all of the necessary items in, you may add decision criteria to the app by using the sidebar. Got all that done? Great! Now start rating each subsection, giving numerical values to each option for each criteria. When all is said and done, the app will produce a sum tally at the bottom, allowing you to quickly and easily spot the option that offers the best possible rating. In the end, that one there is your best option. It’s really that simple, and the whole process works like a champ.
Design and Interface
So if we like Mmmh… so much, why have we rated it so low? To be honest, it’s because the app simply doesn’t bring much new material the playing field. Sure, it’s a great way to figure out the toughest decision in life, but it’s little more than a glorified and convenient Excel spreadsheet. With very little effort you could create the same thing within Google Docs. That being said, the app is convenient. We wish the interface were a little easier to use though, and if there where some kind of set-up wizard, we feel the app would be much more of a utility than it is now.
Because of the stuff we mentioned earlier, as well as the fact that what should be free will cost you $0.99, we have to give Mmmh… three and an half stars. It’s got a lot of promise, and we have no doubts that it could easily help thousands of people make weighty decisions. However, we just don’t think it’s quite in its prime yet. Future updates, though, will hopefully work out some of the finer details.
Mmmh… requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
