King Original: Written iPhone App Review
Like card games? Like apps that encourage you to beat the odds with logic? Then the King Original app from developer 65 Gb is just the app for you. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and runs on iOS 4.3 or later.
When the user first loads King Original, they will be prompted with the following main menu options: “Game”, “Rules”, “Settings”, and “Scores”. The “Game” option will obviously lead the user to the actual game play. The “Rules” option provides the user with details on how to play the game. The “Settings” option allows the user to edit their name, choose from 3 background theme colors, and select their difficulty level. The “Scores” option displays the user’s total wins, maximum score, total loses, minimum score, and the last games’ score results.
The basic premise of the game is to sharpen the user’s memory and logic skills. It is a card based game, and with each game, there are 14 different hands involved. Seven of the hands being served to the user are negative resulting in the user’s score loss, while seven other hands served are positive resulting in additional points for the user. The user’s main goal is to obtain the highest score possible while playing against three other default players. It bears a lot of similarity to the card game “Hearts”.
Appearance and Layout:
The layout of King Original is decent. Everything is clearly marked and laid out and the user should have no problem figuring what is where. Background images are non-distracting and to the point. As for the actual game play itself, if the user has prior experience with other card games, this should be a breeze, and even those who have not had prior experience should be able to figure out the gist of the game in no time. There are minimal sound effects that rather enhance the actual game play. There are a few grammatical errors in the “rules” section and the phrases that show up during game play, but they aren’t too much to harp about.
Overall, King Original is a good game. It is not something extraordinary, but it is fun and entertaining. It is suitable for all ages, although it might be somewhat confusing to younger players, but can still be figured out within time. For this app being offered for 99 cents it is an average deal, with a lot of other game apps costing in the same price range.
