Kids Mosaic HD: iPhone and iPad App Written Review
When we were children, we very greatly loved the mosaic board style games. You know the sort: They come with a variety of small colored shapes, which you must place into holding sections on the board. In the end, this allows you to create whole works of stunning art. However, they’re also ridiculously messy, and now that we’re all grown up, we’re more excited to hand over Kids Mosaic HD by developer Arsidian to our own children. The app comes with all of the same fun, but only a portion of the mess. Best of all, the price is right, too. So if your curiosity has been piqued, head on down below the break to view our whole thought on this great entertainment application!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, Kids Mosaic HD is more or less a direct translation of the classic mosaic board game onto the iPad. Your child is given a large board with pegs to play with, as well as an assortment of multi-colored shapes which can be dragged into place on the board. After poking about for a while, your child will have easily and creatively invented an entirely original work of art. That’s the premise behind the app, and with simple drag-and-drop controls (and a simple color picker) it works like a champ.
The app also comes with two unique modes. One is a free mode where your child can draw whatever they ruddy well please, while the second is a mimicking mode where the child must reproduce a pre-formatted drawing. Even we like this setting, as it’s oddly therapeutic to have to recreate a work of art like that. All in all, we have no doubts that your child will love Kids Mosaic HD to bits.
Design and Interface
As we’ve already stated, we quite liked the look and design of Kids Mosaic HD. We think it’s marvelously done, right down to the simple details like the notches in the board. However, we do feel we should mention something: The app is obviously of a different breed. It’s not an entertaining video game, it’s a traditional amount of fun in a more creative package. Now, we have no problem with this, but if your child’s attention span is more lacking, they may not have the best time with it.
Even if that’s the case, though, the price will certainly make it a wise investment. Yes, for only two bucks you and your child can enjoy the full joy and splendor that is Kids Mosaic HD. And to us, that’s a fair price all the way around. The app is clean, functional, and classically good, which makes it a very solid recommendation in our books.
Kids Mosaic HD requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
