GolfSites: iPhone App Written Review
Do you like to golf? Do you wish you had some kind of tool that you could take with you to better track your statistics, your performance, and your overall gameplay? How about a utility that fits right onto your iPhone for safe keeping? If you answered yes to any of those, then GolfSites by developer Mooee is your ideal solution. The app comes with incredibly precise GPS tracking capabilities, a smooth interface, and enough reporting features to create some pleasant conversation back at the Country Club Bar. All in all, if your interest has been piqued, you need only to head on down below the break to view our whole review of GolfSites.
Concept and Functionality
Overall, the concept that lies behind GolfSites is incredibly simple, and incredibly cool. The application first acts as a bird’s eye viewpoint map of loads of country club locations around the country. You’ll get 20,000 maps, all of which display a full view of the course you’re playing. Why is this important? Because GolfSites will be using this information to track your progress! Yes, as you play, you simply tap what sort of shot you’re about to perform—or already have swung into play—as well as what kind of club you used. The app automatically tracks your whereabouts and plots a single point on the map, indicating where you took a shot. You continue until you’ve got the ball in the hole, at which point the app saves all of the information that you entered for safe keeping. You can use this data to view your past course history, your ball’s tracking path, and information about your gameplay statistics. All in all, we have to say: The app works like a champ, and adds quite a “cool” factor to an already posh sport.
Design and Interface
Best of all, GolfSites looks and behaves rather slickly on the iPhone, too. Its interface could not be simpler to manipulate, and we had no problem finding local courses. The app also gives you a fair number of country club credits, while additional unlocks will cost you $0.99 a piece: Hardly an expense if you play the same club often. Additionally, the graphs and statistics are so simple to read it hurts. All in all, an ace effort by GolfSites.
The one thing that really hurts, though, is the price tag: GolfSites will set you back a whopping $25 in the App Store. Then again, you’re going to get your money’s worth, but for any application, more than $10 is simply too much to ask. Then again, if adding even more sport to your country club sporting is your biggest concern in life, the $25 price tag will hardly be too much to ask. In other words, the value you get out of GolfSites largely depends on you—the app is pristine, just not the price.
GolfSites requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
