Flutter-by Butterflies: iPhone Written App Review
When it comes to children’s apps, we’ve learned to expect a lot. So it was with great pleasure that I took the new Flutter-by Butterflies iPhone app from FeeFiFoFun for a test drive this week. This is, by far, one of the most intuitive apps, designed with kids in mind and holding to the highest standards of kid-friendly apps. Find out more in our iPhone app review of Flutter-by Butterflies.
Using a simple and creative interface, the Flutter-by Butterflies app helps children get practice matching letters (both upper and lower case), colors and rhyming words. The concept is clear and easy for children to understand, and the app uses positive reinforcement to keep kids motivated. The range of tasks in the Flutter-by Butterflies iPhone app helps make it inviting for children ages 18-months to 6-years. That’s quite a shelf life for a children’s app.
And then there’s the app’s fun soundtrack, easy to follow directions and counting reinforcement. Every aspect of this app is designed with kids in mind by a team of consummate professionals. FeeFiFoFun is an artist collective, dedicated to creating beautiful apps for children to encourage learning with plenty of imagination and wonder mixed in. The team has worked with the likes of Pink Floyed, the Blue Man Group and Cirque du Soleil. How’s that for an impressive resume?
There are no outside links in the Flutter-by Butterflies app, not even in the credits section. There is a written web address, but it doesn’t link to an outside browser. Its thoughtful touches like this that help make this simple learning app shine. I did find myself wishing for some direct number or shape learning exercises, but that’s my only real criticism of the app’s feature set.
Layout & Design:
As I mentioned earlier, the folks behind Flutter-by Butterflies have some serious artistic flair. As a result, the images in this app are beautiful, simple enough for children, but extremely well executed at the same time. The colors are bright, there are fun extras like chipmunks who check on your progress, and the touch interface is spot on.
Flutter-by Butterflies is also a universal app, which means it looks incredible on the iPad’s larger screen, but plays well on the iPhone and iPod touch as well. What’s not to love about this? I do wish the game too interaction a bit further, with more characters or an interactive sun. A list feature of letters, numbers and colors would be a nice touch for practice.
For $1.99, the Flutter-by Butterflies iPhone app is a steal. If you have young children working to master the art of letter recognition, color recognition or rhyming words, you simply must download this app. Your family is going to love it.
Flutter-by Butterflies iPhone app requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
