CurrencyGo: iPhone App Written Review
During all the years that we’ve been in on this rock, we’ve travelled a lot. And we mean a lot. We don’t mean to brag about it: Rather, we merely want to point out that we really know the meaning of a quality conversion application for the iPhone. There’s nothing worse than being in a foreign country and having no idea how expensive (or how cheap) something is. Thankfully, we can now use CurrencyGo by developer Meat Tree to solve all of our foreign currency conversion problems. It’s quick, it’s efficient, and it’s easy to use—and for our full review, you need only to look down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
The idea behind CurrencyGo is blissfully simple: It allows you to pick what country you’re in, as well as what currency you’d like to use, and then helps you add a vast number of additional countries to convert your base monetary unit into. For instance, if you want to see how many Pounds Sterling your American Dollar will buy, it’s a simple two-step process to do so. Pick the Dollar as your base, add the GBP moniker, and you’re done! For each currency you input, you’ll be given the flat single unit conversion factor rate. If you’d like to enter a different amount, you’re free to do so in return for more specific conversions.
You’re also free to choose from several different currency exchange information sources. For instance, you can use the EuroBank, or you can select PayPal. We use the latter a lot to travel because of its excellent conversion fees, so this is an especially big boon for us: We assume it will be for others. All in all, CurrencyGo is jam-packed with great features, as well as solid information. Just as a currency exchange application should be!
Design and Interface
If we had to describe CurrencyGo as anything, the last word we would use is “innovative.” You see, the app makes use of a lot of iOS stock elements, including the pinstripe background and tabbed lists. That being said, the app could not be simpler to understand or to use, which makes the interface a real winner in our book. Sure, it’s not breaking any molds. But really, these elements are stock and standard trade for a reason. They work well, and they’re a good compliment for the functionality that’s hidden within the application.
And at the end of the day, CurrencyGo is a one dollar application that will save you potentially hundreds more dollars in both time and actual expenditure while abroad. So if you’ve been looking for the perfect conversion and exchange application to use while on your travels, look no further than this cheap and functional utility from Meat Tree.
CurrencyGo requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
