You know, stuff like mathematics, reading, science—oh, and the alphabet! With that in mind, today’s review will be covering Bogga Alphabet (BoggaTap), which is a quick, simple, and engaging way to teach your children the alphabet using nothing but your iPad and a little bit of spare time. Best of all, the price tag on this one is just about perfect. So if your curiosity has been piqued, don’t be afraid to head on down below the break and peep our whole review!
Concept and Functionality
Over the years, we’ve seen all kinds of different apps that aim to teach your children their basic reading skills, including the alphabet. However, we rarely see one that’s as simple (and still fun) to use as Bogga Alphabet. The premise behind the app is incredibly simple: Your child is presented with a wall of all 26 letters. By clicking on a letter, they can then color it in with the hue of their choice. When this is done, the app throws the letter into the refrigerator portion of its coding. The child can then travel to the fridge to out and arrange the letters that they’ve collected. In this way, they can get a feel for what the letters are, have fun coloring them, and then learn a little bit about word creation by slapping together simple examples on a digital fridge. It’s a brilliant concept, and with voice-over narration keeping your child informed about which letter is which, we can’t see a darn thing wrong with the whole concoction. In our eyes, the simplicity is just fine, as it removes distractions and keeps the focus on learning.
Design and Interface
Best of all, the app looks pretty slick on the iPad, too. It’s got all the hallmarks of a classic children’s application, including soft corners, smooth colors, and simple, simple controls. We have no doubts that your child will be able to competently use the app to both color and arrange their letters. In fact, we can’t imagine them having any difficulty with the app’s controls at all. This, combined with slick graphics and professional narration, make the app an entirely useful tool for teaching your children their basic language skills. Your child can even take a photo of their completed words on the fridge.
On the whole, we can hardly argue with the price tag that Bogga Alphabet is sporting: For only two bucks, you can enjoy all of its splendor. And considering the app may very well be the difference between starting your child’s education off right and keeping it at a normal pace makes all the difference. If you’re looking for a new education utility to give to your child, wait no more! Go ahead and download Bogga Alphabet: You really won’t be sorry.
Bogga Alphabet requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
