Audious: Written iPhone App Review
Looking for something more appealing and interactive then your regular music and audio file player? Then look no further for Audious from developer Lukas Burgstaller is just the app for you! It is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad, and runs on iOS 5.0 or later.
When the user initially loads Audious, they are prompted with a tutorial that will guide them through the functions of the app when making motions on their device screen. The user will need to slide in a downward motion to reveal the music queue. Swiping a leftward motion will allow the user to proceed to the next song. Swiping in an upward motion allows the user to increase the audio volume. By tapping once, the user will initiate the play function. By tapping and holding, the main menu will appear. The user can also slide in an upward motion which will open the music browser. When selecting specific audio files, the user will either tap once to open the file, tap twice to play the next music file, or tap three times to play the current music file.
Appearance and Layout:
Audious features album cover art for each music or audio file, allowing the user to have a visually appealing experience along with their music listening. The unique thing about this app is that the user can add music and audio files to their queue while still playing their desired selected file. Overall navigation is relatively simple, as long as the user remembers the swiping and tapping actions to run each function. The background color of the app is monochromatic, allowing the album covers to be the primary focus for the user’s view.
The overall value of Audious is about average. It is not very likely the users will be anxious to spend $1.99 on another music player app, especially if their app already comes with a default music and audio file player. Many users probably would not mind making a few extra steps and settling with the basic functions that their default player on their device does, but some who prefer a more organized player just might opt out for this app. It is a clean cu and simplistic app that would appeal to all music lovers, but the price might not be as enticing. It can be used by users of all ages and audiences.
