We’ve said it many times here at the iPhone App Review, but we’re more than happy to say it again: We simply love children’s applications designed for the iPad and the iPhone. No other genre presents as much promise or potential to enrich our lives as those that educate and entertain our children. As such, we’re more than tickled pink to introduce to you today Your Adventure by developer RumdeeDum. The app presents a unique and beautifully crafted way to entertain your children with a good story, lively action, and some light puzzling. Best of all, the two dollar price tag is spot-on for the content. So if you’re itching to read our full review, just jump on down below the break where the action is!
Concept and Gameplay
As stated, Your Adventure is certainly an application aimed at children. In this case, it’s squarely shot at those ages 6 to 10, which we feel the app hits perfectly. The basic idea goes something like this: Your child must lead a prince around a vibrantly drawn and animated world, following various paths with a click to discover new challenges. Typically these challenges revolve around bringing a magical creature a certain item, or completing a simple task. Each of the app’s stages offers a new challenge, though these stages often interconnect: The child must get an item from one and then bring it over to the other to complete the puzzle. There are several different ways to navigate around the world, and as puzzles are solved, the app provides small text snippets to explain what’s happening, providing an engaging narrative for your child to enjoy. All in all, it bears a lot of similarity to a choose your own adventure book, but it’s just as at home being a traditional children’s book.
Design and Artwork
One of the things that we are absolute sticklers about within this genre is the artwork. If the character animations aren’t good, your child isn’t likely to stick around. However, in the case of Your Adventure, we have no doubts that your child will be enthralled. The app is gorgeously drawn-up, including rich and vibrant animations, wonderful text entries, and a character that comes to life on the screen. It’s a completely engaging mix, and with worlds that have been sculpted for variety and entertainment value from the ground up, you’re really not going to be missing out with Your Adventure.
Best of all, the app costs only two bucks in the App Store, which is a full fifth the cost of a traditional children’s literature book. Along with that price, you’ll get a mountain of easily re-read content, an endless array of engaging graphics, and a cute story that will have your child entertained for hours. All in all, we can’t help but recommend Your Adventure to the parent looking for a new bedtime distraction.
Your Adventure requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
