Tracks for iPhone: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to see a whole lot of new social media options. These are the sort of applications that aim at helping you share photos, videos and experiences with your friends over the Net. You know, like Facebook! Sadly, most of these are rip-offs of already massive social media options, but every now and then we get a real golden option on the scene. In today’s review, we’ll be looking at Tracks by developer Tracks Media, which fits very squarely into the latter category. The app offers a lot of geo-located services and quick photo editing, making it a valuable tool on the iPhone, as well as a great read. To view our whole review, just check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, Tracks is intended to be your premier social media and networking option on the iPhone. However, it doesn’t try to replace either Twitter or Facebook—in fact, the app comes with full Facebook integration, making it simple to set-up an account with Tracks. What the app offers instead is really quite cool. The idea looks like this:
Within Tracks you create tracks, which are photo and video streams created on your iPhone and delivered immediately to the services servers. These tracks can only be viewed by those friends that you invite, so in that way you can save your boss the scandal of seeing those party photos. However, this is just the beginning of what the app can do. As you snap photos and videos, Tracks follows where you are, sharing the information with your friends. You can also, in real-time, add filters and effects to your media as you create it. This is a step-up even from Instagram, which comes as a tremendous boon for us. And with only those you want viewing your photos, you never have to be scared to be yourself again!
Design and Interface
Another tremendous reason to download Tracks is its killer interface: The app is simply stunning on the iPhone, as its clear the developers have thought an awful lot about what they want it to look like. Navigation is a breeze, as is creating new tracks and inviting friends. We also had no problems taking photos, even with filters added on top. Furthermore, the included camera alone is easily worth a download, as it offers advanced shooting techniques and filters right out of the box.
Best of all, the app is completely free in the App Store. As such, there’s no reason not to give it a go if you’re a dedicated social media expert. It has a lot of unique features to offer, and will be a great addition to your iPhone’s repertoire, especially with the free price tag attached.
Tracks requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
