SymmetryScope: iPhone App Written and Video Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, there’s nothing we like more than a good, artistically bent application. Yes, any app that allows us to express our inner Van Gogh is just fine with us. As such, we’re proud to introduce you today to one of the trippiest new apps to hit the App Store: SymmetryScope by developer Curve Zero Labs. The app makes it quick and simple to create neon-studded design elements that are automatically symmetrical across the dividing line. It’s a unique concept, and with a world of synth-oriented music waiting behind the scenes, it gets even cooler. For our full rundown of this brilliant application, head on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated in our introduction, SymmetryScope is an app that wants to help you express the inner designer. It gives you a vast set of tribal-inspired elements to work with (160 of them, in fact) and then allows you to drag them directly onto the working space. Once placed, these elements will reflect across the median line in perfect symmetry. This means you can quickly create very complex and stunning patterns with very little effort at all. And with the ability to scale or rotate any elements using just your fingers, it could’t be simpler to create entire works reminiscent of M.C. Escher in only minutes!
The app doesn’t stop there, though. It also gives you a world of randomized synthesized music that plays in the background to enhance your creativity. You’ll also get 7 distinct backgrounds, as well as the option to include your own. Not to mention three unique animation modes. All in all, SymmetryScope is a near perfect workspace for your pattern-based creativity.
Design and Interface
Best of all, SymmetryScope looks absolutely incredible on the iPhone to boot! We aren’t kidding about this. The app’s neon-colored looks and underlying soundtrack add up to one visually stunning experience. We loved dragging out pieces, arranging them with the simple touch controls, and then quickly watching as our creations stacked up. It really is unbelievably simple to use, and though 160 elements may not sound like a lot, we promise it would take hours or days to get through them all. Twist them and arrange them however you like: Your designs will still come across as beautiful and stunning.
Keeping in mind, though, we understand that not everyone will enjoy SymmetryScope quite as much as we did. It’s a very creative app, and if you’re not into that sort of thing, you may not get much out of SymmetryScope. That being said, for those who like to showcase their design skills and do it simply on the iPhone, a dollar is hardly a pricy cost of entry to play around with the quality that is SymmetryScope.
SymmetryScope requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
