Spoing: iPhone App Written and Video Review
It’s not always a full-proof plan, but when Chillingo decides to put its name on an application, we can usually assume that the end-result software is going to be a future classic on the iPhone. After all, the company did promote Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, and a wealth of other classic titles. As such, we’re just about as confident as cucumbers that the studio’s latest pick, Spoing, will be rocking the iTunes charts very soon. If your curiosity has been piqued, you need only to scroll down below the break to view our whole review of this incredible platforming application for the iPhone.
Concept and Gameplay
Right off the bat, we really have to hand it to Spoing’s developers for creating an application with a unique monarchic. The central idea t the heart of Spoing takes only seconds to learn, but forever and then some to master. You’re in charge of Spoing, an amorphous alien that travels using trampoline-like platforms. It is your job to collect bits of a rainbow crystal that was stolen from you. Along the way, you’ll also need to collect time-stopping jewels to boost your score, gather other bonus materials, and generally speaking avoid enemies like the plague. The way in which you’re doing all of this is rather interesting, too.
To control Spoing, you’ll need to get him on a trampoline, and then pull down to launch him like a slingshot. Platforms automatically grab him, which lightens the load, but there are a lot of fun variables to keep in mind when playing the game. Overall, it adds up to a marvelous experience, and one that the design has complimented perfectly.
Design and Graphics
Spoing, we simply have to say, looks unbelievably gorgeous on the iPhone. It’s got a unique art style that we can’t get enough of: It reminds us heavily of Contre Jour. Aside from that, one of the coolest things about the app is the pacing. Everything is given to you at just the right moment, and with the way things have been laid out, it seems like there’s hardly a dull moment. Some new challenge is always being introduced, and we loved the game for it. The pacing is perhaps the best we’ve seen anywhere, serving as a perfect compliment to the graphics and design.
Best of all, Spoing costs only a dollar in the App Store, which strikes us as one incredible bargain no matter how you slice it! So if you’ve been looking for the next best thing to arrive on the iPhone, wait no more! Spoing is it, coming in with incredible graphics, a unique gameplay idea, great design, and one of the biggest names in the industry behind it. Oh, and a good price, to boot! And if that’s not a recommendation, we don’t know what is!
Spoing requires iOS 3.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
