Snacksss: Written iPhone App Review
Most games are set where the user is the hunter and is out to catch their prey or prize. What about swapping it around and being the target and trying survive and defend yourself? The game Snacksss from developer First Post Studios presents just that type of scenario. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and runs on iOS 3.0 or later.
When the user initially loads Snacksss, they are prompted with a big “Play” icon and mini icons on the bottom left hand corner of the screen to access the sound setting, game information, game statistics (through Game Center), and the latest achievements (through Game Center). Once the select the playing option they will be prompted with different snake types or levels that they can play such as the “Snacksss”, “Dark Viper”, “Burnsss”, “Neo”, “Sparky” and so on. Each snake has their own idiosyncrasies, such as stylish appearance and food cooking preferences. There is a brief tutorial before actually playing the game that instructs the user how to play. The user will be taking on the form of the snake level they choose/ First, they will fling the snake in any desired direction. Then they will attack in mi-air after their initial catch. They will need to keep their combinations going to achieve a higher score. The more critters they eat, the higher the score. They will also need to constantly defend themselves, by tapping on the indicated buttons when predators, such as hunters and hawks, get too close. They can rattle their snake’s tail to ward off hunters and hide from the hawks. The ultimate goal is to get the highest score possible before the user gets to full or eliminated.
The user will need to come up with different combos by swiping their fingers across their device’s screen and filling up the status bar on the left that represents their snake’s appetite. The game level lasts for approximately 5 minutes.
Appearance and Layout:
The graphics and background images of Snacksss are well done. The snake characters and predators are cartoon-like, but not cheesy. Sometimes the snake movement can be kind of delayed, but not to the point of frustration. Game layout and navigation is easy to figure out and maneuver around. Background music and sound effects pair well with the game settings and scenario and are non-distracting.
The overall value of Snacksss is good. Most game apps cost just about that much as this, if not free, and will offer in game app purchases. It’s a fun game in which the user plays from a different point of view and would be considered engaging and appealing to all age groups and audiences.
