Photo’Flick: iPhone App Written and Video Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we really like memorization games. Why is that? Well, it’s sort of in our personality: We like puzzles, and we like stretching our mental limits to . . . well, their limits! As such, we’re more than tickled pink to introduce you today to Photo’Flick by developer Atinga. The app is perhaps the best example of a photo memorization application that we’ve seen on the iPhone in a long time, offering two game modes, some brilliant design, and a whole lot of arcade style action. If your curiosity has been piqued, you can head on down below the break to view our whole review of Photo’Flick.
Concept and Gameplay
As stated earlier, Photo’Flick is more or less a classic entry into the genre of rip-roaring memorization-arcade game on the iPhone. If you’ve every played a photo tile game on the iPhone (or in real life for that reason) you’ve already got a pretty good handle on what sort of gameplay you’ll find within Photo’Flick. The idea is simple: You’re given a few seconds to analyze an entire layout of photos (which you can choose at the start) and from there everything is flipped over. You’ve then got a time limit to flip them all over again, matching them up in twos. When you’re done, the app will give you a score based on how many times you flipped the wrong cards, as well as how quickly you complete the puzzle. It’s a whole lot of fun, and it’s a nice hark back to a traditional gameplay mechanic. We also greatly enjoyed the fact that the app comes with a shuffle mode to spice up the gameplay even more when you’re bored of the classic game method.
Design and Graphics
And for the most part, we were also quite impressed with the application’s graphics. The menus are sporting, vibrant and simple to navigate, while the gameboard itself is a work of art. We liked how concise and clean the whole interface is, as well as how quickly it behaved on our iPhone. Furthermore, we liked the fact that the application comes with as much integration as it does. Do you want Game Center leader boards and achievements? How about Facebook and Twitter? With Photo’Flick, you’ll get it all and then some.
At only a dollar in the App Store, Photo’Flick is easily worth the money you’ll pay to have a go with it. The app offers a great mix of traditional memorizing gameplay and arcade style action with some excellent graphics. And as new updates bring even more content and modes, we have no doubt that you’ll see the app in the iTunes New and Noteworthy section before too long. This one comes recommended.
Photo’Flick requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
