My First App Vehicles: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to see an awful lot of applications aimed at children. We aren’t complaining about this, though, as it happens to be one of our favorite application genres. Where else will you find a set of apps that so perfectly displays the lasting potential of iOS software? With that in mind, we’re pleased to bring you today one of our new favorite children’s apps on the iPhone and iPad: It’s called My First App Vehicles, and it’s been put out by the developer Appp Media. It offers a unique combination of simple puzzles for your children to play through, as well as a wide assortment of fun vehicles and animations. And for our full review, one needs only to jump on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
When it comes to apps aimed at children, we tend to see one of two types emerging more often than others. One of these types is something we’ve taken to calling the “mini-game collection” and it’s fairly self-explanatory. Essentially, your children are presented with a wide assortment of games that they can play through, each with a unique educational twist. In this way, your child will be entertained, but learning at the same time.
This is more or less how My First App Vehicles behaves. The game comes with an assortment of three different puzzle types for the child to play with. Each features a unique scene with a unique vehicle. This might be a cop car, or it might be a tractor—or even a Chelsea Tractor. Either way, when the puzzle has been completed the scene is acted out through cute animations. So no matter if your child is sliding the puzzle bits around, arranging them properly, or playing pinball, it’s still fun.
Design and Graphics
Best of all, the application looks pretty swell on the iPhone and iPad, too! It’s got a unique, paper cut-out style look to it that we favored immensely. Furthermore, each and every single one of the included animations hits very close to home in an endearing way. Our only real complaint with the app is the fact that very little text is involved. A tractor is never identified as such, which doesn’t do much for language acquisition. On the plus side, the app is globally enjoyable, no matter what language your child is learning.
If My First App Vehicles were any more expensive, we might not call it such a bargain. However, as a two dollar offering in the App Store, it’s cheaper, more educational, and more fun than just about any toy we could name. So with that in mind, if you’re looking for a new novelty app to give to your child to play with, there’s no better place to start than with My First App Vehicles.
My First App Vehicles requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
