Memorize iDi: iPhone Video App Review
Need to find a new way to memorize tons of numbers with ease? The Memorize iDi app for iPhone puts the tried and true Hérigone method, created in 1644, to work for app users around the world, thanks to the folks at IDI Creative.
Memorize iDi manages to take a highly complex concept and methodology and break it down into a simple step-by-step learning process. First and foremost, you have to learn the lay of the land. Think of Memorize iDi as your own personalized mnemonic calculator. Using the Hérigone method, you’ll learn to associate each number, 0-9, with two specific letters. Then you’ll complete a four-tier set of practice tests. By the time you’re done acing practice, you should have a pretty clear understanding of what word and image is used to represent each specific number.
Don’t let my simple explanation fool you, this method is very involved. Thankfully, once you have the basics, it’s easy to build on, with some practice. On the down side, one of the app’s coolest features, a memorization calculator that helps you build mnemonic devices for any set of numbers you need to, only unlocks after you spend a ton of time in the app. I worked my way through three different levels of practice tests, but it was still locked. Only after viewing all of the app’s practice examples will it come unlocked. I find that a bit annoying, especially if you only download the app to help you with your own personal number needs.
Still, you can’t rag on the app for being thorough. Memorize iDi takes its time indoctrinating users with this really cool, and extremely practical, memorization tool. It’s also an international affair, with support in English, French and Spanish. I think this app could be handy for students trying to remember dates, or folks who find themselves needing easy ways to recall long numbers with ease for work or competition.
Layout & Design:
Sporting an academic design, the Memorize iDi iPhone app is extremely easy to navigate and use. Most pages have multiple options for navigating back a single page or to the main screen, a handy thing when you’re absorbed in learning a new skill or working on your own personal number memorizing projects.
While it wasn’t anything extraordinarily special, I found the app’s UI quite functional and fitting to the topic at hand.
Considering the in depth nature of the app’s content and the fact that it has to teach users a whole new approach to numbers and memorization, I find the $2.99 introductory price tag for Memorize iDi extremely reasonable. No word at the moment what the app’s full price will be, although I hope it isn’t much more. As long as the app stays in the moderate price range, I’m comfortable calling Memorize iDi a solid value, even if the market for the app is relatively limited.
Memorize iDi iPhone app requires iOS 3.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
