FreeSMSWorld: iPhone Apps Written Review
Do you remember the old days? You know the days when sending a lot of text messages cost a small fortune? If you don’t, then we’re willing to bet that you don’t own a phone: You see, those days are still very much alive and well. In the modern age of data plans, restrictions, and monstrous contracts, it can be quite a burden to send out text messages. However, if you decide to use an app like FreeSMSWorld by developer Diego, you can save a lot of money and still keep your vicious texting habits intact. Why is this? Because the app allows you to send messages for free. And our entire review is free, too: You’ll find it below, just beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, the aim that FreeSMSWorld has in mind is very simple: It allows you to send free text messages across the world (it supports 235 different countries, which is just about all of them in our reckoning) without any sort of costs attached whatsoever. It does this through a very simple mechanic. You simply load up the app, type in your contact information as well as a message, and then click the send button. Away the message goes, arriving safely in the hands of your recipient. It really is that easy! The app also includes a dialing code book, in case you can’t remember what the United Kingdom’s code is—it’s +44, by the way.
The app also ties directly into your address book, allowing you to load contacts without any fuss at all. Simply scroll through, find the person you’re looking for, and then send them a nice message saying how much you like them. Or anything else for that matter: It’s all the same, because each and every text is free!
Design and Interface
As much as we liked the functionality of the application, though, we weren’t such big fans of the interface. It’s just not the most fluid design we’ve ever seen on the iPhone, but then again, we are kind of picky. We liked the fact that our address book is linked to the app, but we would have liked a cooler texting interface: One similar to the built-in iPhone display would have been nice, for instance. However, future updates could easily dispense some modifications as needed.
At the end of the day, though, FreeSMSWorld is a two dollar application that has the potential to save you a whole heck of a lot more. And to us, that’s just about the coolest thing since Vodafone. So if you’re looking for a convenient way to send free messages without ditching your old contacts book, go ahead and give FreeSMSWorld a whirl. It’s cheap, effective, and we promise you’ll get something out of it.
FreeSMSWorld requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
