We tend to travel a lot, and there are many reasons for this. Firstly, we travel to see clients about new designs or projects. But on top of that, we also just like to go on holiday to new places. As such, we spend a lot of our time worrying about planes, airports, and conditions. However, our travels will now be much, much simpler, thanks to a single app called FlightHero by developer Ildar Khanov. The app is one of the single best, and best looking, flight tracking apps we’ve seen on the iPhone, barre none. So if your interest has been piqued, head on down below the break to get our full scoop on this iOS wonder!

Concept and Functionality

As stated, FlightHero is first and foremost meant to be used to track the flights you or a friend or family member are on. This could not be simpler. Firstly, you can enter the flight number yourself to receive an instant look at what the conditions and estimated arrival times are like. And with support for over 16,000 airports and 1,550 airlines, you’re guaranteed to get results. Loading any specific flight brings you to the information panel, which includes the estimated departure or arrival (or actual times if that part of the flight is over) as well as some additional information about the flight. You’ll get immediate information about delays, gates and terminals, as well as alerts if any other conditions are prohibiting the flight from proceeding as normally directed. The absolute coolest part about FlightHero, though? With the touch of a button, you can pull up a map showing you where the plane is right now. And that, mates, is bloody cool stuff.

Design and Layout

We also can’t applaud the developers enough for the design. The app looks gorgeous, with a custom-built interface that shines like magic. Additionally, there are a mountain of small touches that make the app so easy to use. For instance, the touch of a button returns your  nearest airports. Likewise, if you travel frequently between the same locations, the app will remember, saving you some time during button presses. And with so many search filters and options, we think it would be just about impossible not to find your flight using FlightHero: Unless the flight simply doesn’t exist, of course!

Overall Value

We’ll spin the final results to you this way: For three bucks, you get access to one of the most full-featured, cheapest, and powerful flight trackers on the planet. If you travel frequently, or just want to keep in the know about those amongst your circle who do, there’s no better way than with this three dollar gem. FlightHero is a travel must-have, and comes recommended.

FlightHeroFlightHero requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
