City King: Written iPhone App Review
Imagine being able to transform and conquer territories and try to win the royal title of king. Now take that idea, and imagine that these territories you are competing for are based on your actual surrounding locations. City King from developer Funton will do just that for you. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, and runs on iOS 3.1.3 or later.
The main premise of City King is to battle and conquer territories based on the current location that the user is at. Obviously in order to do this, the user needs to allow the app to recognize the user’s device location. The user will also need a Facebook account in order to play the app, since they need to login with their account and find other Facebook friends to play with. So if the user does not already have a Facebook account, they will need to create one in order to properly access the app.
The app takes the users’ current location and creates a map based on it. Users can then check in to locations to battle monsters and conquer buildings based on their current geographic location, all with the same goal in mind – to be king. The game can either be played in single player mode or multiplayer mode. For the multi-player mode, the user will add their Facebook friends, and together the user and their friends can win battles. Virtual aids such as weapons, potions, and other tools can assist users in getting closer to reaching their goal of being king.
Appearance and Layout:
The general appearance of City King is appealing and engaging. It has enough spunk to draw any player. The overall graphics are well done and not over the top. Layout is simple and self-explanatory, and game app navigations are easy. The background music and sounds are pleasant and non-distracting.
The overall value of City King is excellent. Even though it was temporarily being offered free for its initial launch, even for the general amount to be paid for it would be worth it. It is a great game that will entertain any age player and is a great way to pass time by. The only downside is the fact that you need to login in and play with friends with a Facebook account, so if the player does not have one, they will need to create one in order to properly access the game app. However, most people have a Facebook account these days, so the downside is very minimal and does not affect the overall value of the app.
