Here at the iPhone App Review, one of the things we like most about our job is the chance to explore some of the cool and life-changing apps that are emerging for the platform. Yes, we’re talking about those much sought after educational applications, the sort that you give to your child to teach them something they’ll keep with them for life. In today’s case, we’re talking about Brush with Jackson by developer Rosie’s Playtime. The app offers a brilliantly simple way to teach your child how to brush their teeth, and it does so in a manner that’s endearing and charming. With that in mind, you can view our whole app review below, just beyond the break!

Concept and Functionality

As stated, the sole intent of Brush with Jackson is to teach your child how to properly brush their teeth. It does this in a very simple way, and it’s really quite ingenious: The app supplies your character with a cute bunny character to brush along with. This bloke’s name is Jackson, and he does a lot of other things besides just brush his teeth. You child can rub his tummy to make him squirm, they can talk to him to hear their voices repeated back, they can record his motions for playback, and they can even watch him play some tunes on his kazoo like toothbrush. It’s a lot of fun, and gives your child a nice foundation for the actual learning that’s about to happen.

You see, by picking a song for Jackson to play, your child will brush as he does until he’s done. Coincidentally, he brushes for the exact, specified time as recommended by doctors pretty much everywhere. In this way, you can encourage your child to brush and brush properly, but in a way that’s loads of fun.

Design and Artwork

As with any app aimed at children, we take a careful eye to the design and graphics of the application. If it doesn’t look good, or isn’t designed well enough to draw your child in, they simply won’t be involved. However, in Brush with Jackson’s case, we have none of those fears. The character is unbelievably charming, and has sort of stop-motion look that’s very pleasing. Better still, the animations are wonderfully endearing, and we have no problem thinking your child will love Jackson to bits.

Overall Value

At the end of the day, the $1.99 price tag associated with the app is hardly anything at all to ask for your child’s continued health. If you’ve been looking for a convenient and fun way to teach them to brush their teeth, there’s really no better place to start than with Brush with Jackson. It’s well-designed, very fun, and proper healthy. As we like it.

Brush with JacksonBrush with Jackson requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
