Bloom: iPhone Video and Written App Review
The new Bloom* app for iPhone is a gorgeous multimedia productivity program designed to help you get the most out of life by setting up a series of inspiring slideshows and reminders. It comes to us courtesy of Mindbloom. I’ve never been so glad about getting to do a companion video app review before. Mostly because the high quality of this app’s content, and its ease of use are hard to put into words. But I’ll do my best.
In the tree that is your life, Bloom* sets out to inspire beauty, improvement and consciousness in all its branches. As goals go, that’s not too bad. I’ve seen a rise in apps that claim to inspire your workout or professional prowess, and think that Bloom* manages to be abundant yet unassuming by touching on all parts of your life. This app doesn’t tell you to run 10 miles a day. But it will remind you to drink your water, call your mother, take the dog for a walk, or do anything you’d care to.
Bloom* integrates with a free bloom store. The store contains dozens of beautiful, pre-constructed multimedia works of art, containing images, music and thoughtful phrases. And yes, they’re all free, too. Those are all well and good, but I’m a much bigger fan of the app’s super-easy option to create your own blooms with your own music, images and words. We could all use a little reminding, whether it’s to take a deep breath or look for beauty in our surroundings.
The app rounds out nicely with share options and the ability to sync your blooms with a Mindbloom account. Mindbloom takes the world that Pinterest began and fleshes it out with music, motion and words. The only ability I found myself wishing for was the option to add video or Web content to blooms. It’s definitely something you want to get in on.
Layout & Design:
The stars of Bloom* are the blooms themselves. These bad boys are seriously beautiful, and the images are incredibly high quality. They look stellar on a retina display. I did find myself wishing the app was truly universal. While it looked lovely on my iPhone, I wanted to revel in its loveliness on my iPad in full-screen, and it just wasn’t optimized for the job.
Navigating and using Bloom* is much easier than other apps I’ve seen like this, and that’s a big plus in my book. Creating blooms and navigating the store’s blooms is an easy, breezy process. Just as it should be.
Bloom* is free. The blooms in the bloom store are free. Creating a Mindbloom account is also free. The only thing you may end up dropping a bit of cash on? The suggested tracks that can be purchased from iTunes with a simple touch.
Needless to say, I believe Bloom* is a beautiful value. This app inspires us to make the most of our lives. Sometimes even the most fabulous among us could use a little nudge in the right direction, or a reminder of just how good our lives are. Bloom* does that, with grace and style. Go get this app, my friends. You’ll be glad you did.
Bloom* iPhone app requires iOS 4.2.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
