Medal of Gunner: Written iPhone App Review
Imagine that you get to take the role of a World War II fighter pilot and can get in on the thrill and sights of what a pilot in that era might have really experienced. Medal of Gunner from developer PictoSoft can help re-create that experience for you. This app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad, and it also requires iOS 4.0 or later.
When Medal of Gunner initially loads, the user is prompted with a tutorial option with a panoramic aerial view, along with a simple menu title on top. When the tutorial option is selected, on the bottom of the main loading screen a mission icon and a book icon come to view. The book icon displays the types of awards the user can attain when completing the requirements of certain missions. The actual game play itself can be a bit complicated. The user will definitely have to fiddle around to see how things go. Once the user accesses the missions, there will be prompts on what sight/view to switch too and so on. However, getting the moves down and finding different navigations can be confusing. Primary functions such as shooting and reloading are simple to figure out, but change the view of the screen and altering the way you see your enemies can be somewhat difficult to figure out. With the helpful hints, the user will soon be able to figure out that they can actually tilt their device to take in a better view of any enemy planes in sight. However, once the user gets the hang of it, the game is pure fun and great to play. Once each missions is successfully completed, the user gets to advance to the next mission and also gets promoted in ranking. They are also granted extra rewards such as HP and so on.
Appearance and Layout:
The overall appearance of Medal of Gunner is great and the views and planes/aircraft are visually appealing. The background music is what someone could describe as epic, and the actual shooting sound effects are very life-like. The overall layout is okay, but not simple, and like the game play, the user will need to maneuver their way around before getting the gist of how to actually play the game.
For Medal of Gunner being 99 cents, it really is not a bad deal. It is a decent app for those interested in World War II era, or just flying aircraft in general. The only downside is that it can be somewhat difficult to figure out the functions first hand, but once that hurdle is passed, then this app can provide much fun and entertainment. This app probably would not cater to all ages and all audiences, but would be worth it for those who have a particular interest in this genre.
Medal of Gunner iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. The iPhone app reviews rating:
