Wood Camera: Written and Video iPhone App Review

Reviewed by Philip Chan

The plethora of new iOS camera apps can be overwhelming at first, especially for new iPhone users. With big names like Instagram dominating the smartphone photog scene, it can be difficult to find newer apps with high-quality features. One such up and coming app is the newly-released Wood Camera from Bright Mango, jam packed with features and running on iOS 5.1 or later.

Features:

Wood Camera allows the user to snap photos (choosing whether or not to use included real-time lense effects), paste ‘em in from online, or select from already included photos on the iOS. Then, the user can easily and quickly edit them with a few taps of their finger. Finally, users may share them online via email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more. It’s all very streamlined and handles very well on the iOS. Pardon me for a second while I rave about the array of filters, effects, lenses and more found in Wood Camera. It’s truly impressive the large number of editing options found in this little app. It’s also nice just how careful the developers were to make sure users could go back and easily undo any changes they’ve made to a photo. The cropping, focus and frame options also all work wonderfully and leave the finished product photos looking great.

Appearance and Layout:

Wood Camera App Review

Wood Camera looks excellent on the iOS. The layout is eye-catching, but not so bold as to clash with the user’s photographs. There’s definitely a nice, retro feel to the app, similar in many ways to the look that Instagram inspires. Don’t mistakn it for an Instagram clone though, as its really quite unique. The various filters, lenses and more editing options leave photos looking great, even lower-res photos in poor lighting and other lousy photo locations.  Browsing is a snap, especially with the simple and quick tutorial popups at the start of the app.

Value:

At $1.99, Wood Camera isn’t free but it’s still a steal in terms of iOS photo editing and sharing. The huge selection of filters, texture, frames and more really make this a great app for any iOS photography fan. I really think it is a must-have for those wanting to get the most out of their iPhone’s built-in camera. Truly consider getting this app and see just how easy it makes your photography on the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad today!

Wood Camera iPhone app requires iOS 5.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. The iPhone app reviews rating: [Rating: 5/5]

Something of note that I like is the live-view ability to see what a filter will look like while taking a photo.
