MyTunes Pro HD: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, we tend to play a lot of music: We aren’t kidding, we really play a lot of music. This might have something to do with the fact that we moonlight as musicians, but either way, we like our tunes to sound incredible when they’re playing through our speakers. Thankfully, when we’re using our iPad as a home base for our tracks, we have MyTunes Pro HD by SRS Labs to tune things exactly as we want them. The app serves as the perfect liaison between the songs we love and the quality we demand. It’s absolutely teeming with features, and if you’re interest has been piqued, you can head on down below the break to view our whole review!
Concept and Functionality
Perhaps the easiest way we know to describe MyTunes Pro HD is as such: The app essentially functions as a car stereo for your iPad. What we mean is, it provides the user with a nearly limitless amount of tuning and EQ-ing options to ensure that the sound produced through the iPad is the absolute best it can be. The app comes stock with a number of pre-set models, including large. medium, and small speakers, a built-in speaker mode, and even a car setting—amongst quite a few more. However, if none of these are to your liking, you can of course tune the bands yourself. The app also gives you the option to produce party lists or DJ-ing effects to spice up a new mix at a party. Or, if you’d like, you can use the built-in speed analyzer to create a list of songs that matches the pace at which you’d like to work out. In other words, if you want to edit or use your iPad’s music in a new and inventive way, MyTunes Pro HD is easily your new best mate.
Design and Performance
At this point, though, we’re guessing the only thing you really want to know about is the sound. So here’s the final verdict: This app sounds bloody marvelous. Even the built-in speaker function instantly improved the tuning of our favorite tracks. The latest Kills album was spectacular, no matter what setting we put it through. Likewise, the speed and playlist functions all behaved splendidly. We did experience a bit of lag when changing speeds or tunings, but it wasn’t quite enough to be a deal breaker for us.
Not sure you want to fork over the money for the app right now? Fine! MyTunes Pro HD is free in the App Store. You’ll get a limited amount of playback, but it’s just long enough to figure out how incredible the sounds really are. Once that’s been determined, the app costs only $9.99 in-app, which makes MyTunesProHD a real bargain for the iPad-owning audiophile.
MyTunes Pro HD requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
