Energizer Pro: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, there’s nothing we like more than a good novelty app. You know, the sort that make it look like you’ve cracked your iPhone screen, or even just the small title that produces huge farting noises. You know the ones. However, today we’ll be adding a new favorite to the pile of our novelty toys: Energizer Pro by developer Indigo Beta. The app allows you to trick your friends into thinking you can charge your iPhone by simply shaking it, or discharge it with the touch of a button. It’s all good fun, and for our full review of this app, one needs only to head on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
Despite the serious tone that the developer’s have taken with Energizer Pro’s App Store page, we feel we should mention right off the bat that you can not charge your iPhone using the motion sensor inside. However, what you can do is trick your friends into thinking you can! And it’s quite a lot of fun, too. This is Energizer Pro’s main goal, and it does it pretty well. At first boot, the app presents the user with a battery that faintly mirrors your iPhone’s current charge. From there, it instructs you to shake your iPhone to recharge. As you shake, a voltage meter “reads” the increases, and the battery slowly fills. However, if you’d like to do the opposite, you can click the discharge button. By pressing your finger to a “sensor” the battery will slowly drain.
It’s all rather convincing, and the app even comes with an health and safety warning along the bottom. So all in all, what are the actual odds that you’ll be able to convince someone the app is legit? Largely, this depends on your presentation: The app has given you everything you need, so the rest is really up to you.
Design and Layout
As much as we liked the app’s premise, though, we do have some complaints about the app’s actual implementation. First of all, there are some obvious giveaways if your friends are being particularly sleuthy. For instance, the battery charge on your iPhone’s actual dock does not change, and cannot be changed. Furthermore, we felt the pace of the recharge was slightly to quick to be believable.
And on a final note, is Energizer Pro really worth the two bucks that it costs? After all, what you’re really buying are laughs: The app doesn’t really do anything, per say. As such, the value you get out of Energizer Pro is largely up to you. If you feel it’s worth two dollars to trick all your friends into thinking you’re the greenest iPhone owner on the block, then go for it! The app will certainly deliver in spades to meet your clowning needs.
Energizer Pro requires iOS 3.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
