EcoFish: Written iPhone App Review
Being environmentally conscious seems to be the way to go now these days, and no matter how big or small, everyone can make a difference. EcoFish from developer Eclipse Games S.C. takes the “go green” concept and allows the user to assist a little fish in cleaning something really huge, something like the ocean. This app is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad, and it also requires iOS 4.0 or later.
EcoFish does take a little getting used to. Unlike other app games available, it does not consist of the basic “touch and flick” method. Instead, it is more of a strategy game, where you draw and create a layout to help a fish cleanup the ocean from an oil spill without the fish being contaminated by any of the oil or any of the other creatures that have beem infected by the spill. There is a tutorial available when you first load the game, and once viewed, the premise of the game becomes more promising. The user will be able to unlock the next level one he or she completes the current level at a reasonable score. Each level will prompt the user with a specific objective or goal, and the user must meet that goal before advancing. The only downside of this app is that it does take some time to load initially, but once the gameplay begins, each further advancement to the next level goes at a much quicker pace.
Appearance and Layout:
The graphics are decent and the cartoon animations on EcoFish do not come off as being cheesy. The overall color scheme is great and eye catching and the main character and sub characters are all enjoyable to watch. Menu functions are easy to navigate and locate with clear “backwards”, “refresh”, and “forward” icons readily available at the bottom of each screen once each level is completed.
Most game apps run about the 99 cents range, so EcoFish is considered up on higher end as cost goes. However, this app stands out as being pretty unique compared to the other game apps being offered out there and has a good moral ring to it as well. Each level can be completed in several different ways, so each attempt is not always the same. This is a good app for all age groups, and adults will enjoy “cleaning up the ocean” just as much as kids will.
EcoFish iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. The iPhone app reviews rating:
