Builda the Re-Bicycler: iPhone App Written Review
Here at the iPhone App Review, one of the genres we see the most of is apps aimed at developing children. We like this, as it shows one of the more revolutionary sides of technology like iOS. With nothing but a gadget you use to surf the web, you can educate your child, or merely keep them entertained for long periods of time without using the TV. As such, we’d like to introduce you to one of our new favorite apps: Builda the Re-Bicycler by developer Midlandia Press. The app is gorgeous, easy to use, and comes with an incredible message. For our full review, simply head on down below the break!
Concept and Functionality
When it comes to apps for children on the iPad, they tend to fall into two categories: Either a collection of educational mini-games for your kid to enjoy and learn from, or a traditional children’s book redone for the iOS platform. Builda the Re-Bicycler falls squarely into the latter category. The book tells the story of a town gone bike crazy. When something happens with a citizen’s bike, though, they throw it in the landfill without looking to recycle or fix it. If you couldn’t guess, the book is very focused on the green aspects and benefits of recycling. We favor this message a lot, and it’s certainly different from a lot of the drab affairs we tend to look at.
Best of all, though, the app is simply one of the best-made we’ve seen. The page turns could not be simpler, and the app comes with a variety of reading methods. The book will read itself to your kid, or they’re free to read it through themselves. It’s also been narrated by the author, which is quite the boon.
Design and Artwork
One of the more impressive elements of Builda the Re-Bicycler, though, is its solid artwork and design. The app has obviously been created with care, and the end result shines just as well as any classic piece of children’s literature. The artwork is comforting yet detailed, professional but accessible. We also liked the professional narration: It’s crisp and dramatic, which is excellent for language acquisition and reading skills. All in all, these elements aren’t typically seen in this high of quality. So in other words, Builda the Re-Bicycler is easily one of the best book renditions we’ve seen on the iPad.
Best of all, Builda the Re-Bicycler will cost you only two dollars in the App Store. That’s easily a sixth of what a traditional book would cost, and it comes with so much more interactivity than a traditional media. Overall, if you’ve been looking for a new eBook to give to your child, there’s no better place to start in the App Store than Builda the Re-Bicycler.
Builda the Re-Bicycler requires iOS 4.3 or later and is compatible with the iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
