Awesome Calendar: Written iPhone App Review
Are you dissatisfied with the limitations of Google Calendar or iCal on your iPhone? Do you need a all-in-one, fresh take on the mobile calendar app options? Take a look the humorously-named Awesome Calendar, from Yunasoft.
Before I dive into the features offered by Awesome Calendar, let me point out that this app is absolutely packed with customization options and tools to make it a complete calendar app. It’s a little overwhelming at first, but with increased use you’ll get the hang of it.
From the startup, users can choose which national holidays they would like included by default. This is done by selecting from a long list of countries and cultural groups. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that users can select more than one country for holidays; perhaps a future update will include this. Then, they can import their Google Calendar and iCal calendars into the app, setting it up to be the perfect one-stop-calendar tool.
Users can add events, ToDos, notes and more to each date. There is even a great selection of drag-n-drop clip art (“stickers”) to represent various things to remember (weddings, birthdays, etc). Need to make sure you don’t forget an activity? Set an alarm to be associated with that particular time and date (or a little in the future) as needed. Add photos as you take them or from your photos on your iOS to dates for further notes and reminders. Protect your calendar with a unique passcode lock, send emails, and even check the forecast for upcoming dates through Awesome Calendar. There is also language support for English, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Spanish.
The synchronization and social media aspects of Awesome Calendar include the ability to share your events and other dates with others online. This tool, termed “AwesomeShare”, requires registration plus country location to use, but it is an interesting one not often seen in other calendar apps.
Appearance and Layout:
Awesome Calendar actually looks really slick and polished. I’ve taken a look at several different calendar apps for the iOS and Awesome Calendar is definitely one of the best-designed options in this category. The layout is excellent, and while the overall choice of options can be a little overwhelming as I previously mentioned, it’s not too hard to navigate the app from the start. Icons and design appear very sharp, even on non-retina display devices. User support also appears to be excellent, with the developers support website offering quick and responsive feedback.
Do we really need another iOS calendar app? I world answer this with a whole-hearted “Yes” when it comes to Awesome Calendar. This app is a fairly impressive all-in-one mobile calendar, featuring impressive import options and customization settings for all users to enjoy. It is not free ($2.99), but for those who really enjoy the overall functionality offered by this app, it’s a steal.
Awesome Calendar iPhone app requires iOS 4.2 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review. The iPhone app reviews rating:
