Word Revolution: iPhone App Written Review
It’s hardly a secret around here that we’re more than a little mad for a good iPhone puzzle game. There’s just something about wracking our brains during the morning commute that gets our blood pumping to the music. As such, we’d like to take the time now to introduce you to our latest toy, Word Revolution, by developer Haydn Muir. The app offers a totally unique way to play word games from your iPhone, and comes loaded with enough difficulty to keep even the most proficient of wordsmiths busy for many hours to come. For our full thoughts on this killer word-based puzzler for the iPhone, jump below the break!
Concept and Gameplay
The concept behind Word Revolution is a classic case of “easy to learn, not to so easy to master.” The game first and foremost has players guessing at words. Within each level, the player is presented with a range of word-studded rollers. These rollers must be arranged to spell the word that’s hidden amongst the multiple letters. When this has been accomplished, the game hands the player a green light, and then more time is added to the ever-present timer at the top of the screen. Oh, and then it’s also straight along to the next word in a sort of wordy arcade style gameplay. However, it will likely be a while before you reach this point, if you’re anything like us. You see, the game spares no holds where difficulty is concerned. It comes with a range of settings running from very easy all the way up to very difficult, but we still found even the easiest of settings a real brain bender. That being said, our challenges could solely be our own, but either way we feel compelled to warn you: Word Revolution can be a real time hole!
Design and Layout
As much as we loved the gameplay held within Word Revolution, we weren’t such great fans of the app’s design. That isn’t to say the app is poorly built: It does well enough, but rather, we feel it’s still lacking a certain aesthetic appeal to round out the picture. A brighter color scheme and some modified rollers would go a long way toward making the app less of a stock-looking iOS experience, and more of an wholly immersive iPhone puzzler.
Similarly, we also feel the app is exactly one dollar too pricy to be comfortable. That being said, you’ll certainly get your money’s worth here with a wealth of levels, a high rate of difficulty, and more than enough brain-bending action to keep you busy for weeks to come. If you’re into brain bending word puzzlers for the iPhone, there’s no reason in the world to ignore Word Revolution. It’s a solid must-have.
Word Revolution requires iOS 5.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
