VinScan Barcode Scanner: iPhone App Video and Written Review
Are you in the business of selling cars? Or, do you spend your days repairing them? Or maybe you’re just making a trip down to the local DMV and want to have a record of your car’s information on you? No matter what your need is, VinScan Barcode Scanner (Thomas P Carney) is the ideal utility for your vin number requirements. The app makes it incredibly simple to scan, store, and otherwise view the assorted fields and data points about your cars—no matter if they’re sitting on the lot or in your driveway. In other words, if you’re in need of just such an app for the iPhone, VinScan Barcode Scanner is the ideal option. For our full review of this automobile-oriented application, check below the break!
Concept and Functionality
As stated, VinScan Barcode Scanner has one goal and one goal only: The app allows you to walk up to any car on the lot, open the door, and scan the vin number barcode along the dash. With this accomplished, the app polls the Internet for you, returning all of the important, vehicle-specific information you need to make a sale or repair. Obviously, the app is geared towards those that need to scan a vin number often: We expect this market is largely restricted to car salesman and repairman. However, that doesn’t make the app any less of a wonder! Without fail, we scanned a few of the cars we had lying around, and each attempt returned year, make, model, engine type, drive type, trim level, etc. Almost everything we ever wanted to know about the car appear at our fingertips, and all we had to do was scan a simple barcode. Best of all, we could easily save each record as its own unit, allowing us to return later to the same car for a value check.
Design and Layout
However, as big of fans of the app’s functionality as we are, we aren’t exactly floored by its design. Sure, the app is car lot ready—and we aren’t expecting a masterpiece—but the graphics of the design are still a little rough around the edges. Likewise, we’re less than pleased with the pricing scheme: Packs of ten scans cost a buck each, which with a car lot salesman, can add up quickly. We’d much rather pay an initial upfront cost (even if it’s high) and then be allowed to scan unmetered.
That being said, VinScan Barcode Scanner is the only app we can name that accurately meets the needs of the car salesman or repairman. Furthermore, the incredibly easy functionality and intuitive interface make it an absolute steal. If you’ve been waiting for an app of this nature, wait no longer.
