The Photo Guide: iPhone Written App Review
Here at The iPhone App Review, we’ve had a wide selection of photography apps filter through our lenses the past few weeks. It goes without saying – apps for taking, editing, sorting and sharing pics are hot. But what about an app that helps you become a skilled photographer? When Instagram filters just aren’t cutting it, The Photo Guide iPhone app from De BLUE BOX – Productions is here to pick up the slack. I’ve never seen an app approach the topic of photography so thoroughly, or so well. So if you’re a picture snapper, mobile editor or serious photographer in pursuit of the perfect shot, you do not want to miss this iPhone app review of The Photo Guide.
The Photo Guide iPhone app is a photography encyclopedia, full of practical information, smart how-to’s and tips to make your pictures pop. At first glance, this app may just look like an immaculately laid out guide to taking pictures, full of awesome images and insightful articles. But when you go deeper, you start to find out this app is designed as an educational tool and a delightful playground of photography that anyone, from the casual mobile snapper to the dedicated professional, can benefit from spending some time in.
I wasn’t so sure how good the app was, so I showed it to a few friends who take pictures for a living. In a few moments they were nodding and “a-ha” ing in pleasure. They were particularly fond of how the app applies classic photography theory to the mobile realm, to fantastic results.
Layout & Design:
The Photo Guide is organized by tab. First there is the photo tips tab, where you can search for key words or simply browse the vivid articles with tips on things like depicting motion, using deep focus, preventing autofocus errors, and tons of other awesome stuff. The other tabs allow you to search and scan in the same manner, but focus on the following specific topics: iPhone and iPad photography, Photography How Tos and Filters. There’s also a comprehensive photography glossary and a really cool photo quiz feature that tests your knowledge and keeps track of your answers.
Needless to say, the app looks fantastic. I expected no less, and Photo Guide delivers on every front.
If you take pictures and aspire to be better, you need this app. Plain and simple. During a sales period the app is available for 25 percent off, coming in at a reasonable $3.99. That’s not the sort of price that breaks the bank, and it’s less than you’d spend on a pricy photography course or text book. It’s also super convenient to use, thanks to The Photo Guide’s universal app status. It looks beautiful, and even supports the new iPad’s retina screen capacity.
In short, you owe it to your pictures to get The Photo Guide. End of story.
The Photo Guide iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
