Ready2read English?: Written iPhone App Review

Reviewed by Philip Chan

Do you have the desire to learn English, but do not want to spend a lot on tutoring or classes?  Or do you simply want to improve your current English skills? Ready2read English? iOS app from developer dalnimsoft will help you do just that. Going through this app will gradually build up your English and vocabulary proficiency. This app is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, but does require iOS 4.0 or later.

Upon loading, the main menu features a “Book”, “Web Browser”, and “Dictionary” option.
The “Book” section of this app offers numerous popular English texts and excerpts that contain simple and intermediate words for the avid English learner. From “The Gettysburg Address” to Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, the user can not only learn English, but catch a glimpse of history at the making as well.  The “Dictionary” section is what it is; a source of words and their definitions for users on the go who stumble upon a word that they do not recognize and have a virtual dictionary to make sense of it all at their fingertips.

Appearance and Layout:

Ready2read English? App Review

There is nothing fancy about the appearance and layout of this app. Basic and simple is what this app looks like, and basic and simple is what its users need. Interchanging blue and white color schemes are the only highlight, and clean lines and defined subsections add to the categorization. Texts located in the “Book” section are interactive and if users spot a word they are unfamiliar with they can highlight it and a meaning or definition will be provided in another frame. The app is very easy to navigate, and there is even a magnifying glass option to hover over words you want to see more up close during the text and excerpt reading. Text size and word difficulty level can also be manually adjusted to the user’s desired preference.

For $4.99, this app is pretty decent. With sixty-one texts and excerpts, the user should be well occupied in learning. It is certainly possible for users to get the same books free of charge from 9other sources, however, it is very unlikely that that these other sources will provide an interactive definition lookup function instantly at the tap of your finger on a particular unfamiliar word or phrase. This is a great app for those always on the go and want to have something beneficial and convenient for them to improve their English skills with.

Ready2read English? iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
