PTSoccer EPL: Written iPhone App Review
Soccer is one of the world’s most popular sports and for good reason. With a wonderful blend of speed, precision and strategy required soccer appeals to a diverse audience across the globe. Fans of professional soccer teams often follow the English Premier League, one of the top professional divisions in the world. Helping keep track of games and offering match predictions for upcoming games is PTSoccer EPL, from developer Catalyst.
PTSoccer EPL offers three main sections: News and Media, Predictions and Tables. The News and Media section offers a scrolling view of various top stores relating to the EPL, along with awesome video and text match reports. Predictions is the core of this soccer app, with predictions posted from prior matches in the free version, with viewing upcoming predictions possible if one purchases the in-app upgrade ($0.99). The overall predictions rate seems to be fairly decent, judging from several of the recent games. There is a lot of statistic info covered in this app, certainly impressive, with Form Comparison, Attack, Defense, Win Rate, Squad List and more featured. Finally, don’t ignore the Tables section, with an excellent comparison of the various EPL teams offered, including total points. It’s a very impressive app in terms of features, as PTSoccer EPL is simply loaded with info and stats on the EPL teams.
Appearance and Layout:
PTSoccer EPL sports a snazzy design and layout. The initial landing screen features a nice soccer turf image, with the tab buttons laid out on top of this. Tables, graphics, and other comparisons of the various stats involved in team match-ups can be a little overwhelming at first. However, after taking some time to sit down with PTSoccer EPL, users will probably feel at home with the wealth of information laid out in the app’s various pages. Furthermore, the News and Media section is really easy to browse, with both news stores and match report videos shown under descriptive thumbnails (really makes it easy to find the articles you want).
Overall, I was pretty impressed with PTSoccer EPL. It’s a well-rounded app with a solid layout, comprehensive EPL coverage and decent match predictions. A downside if the $0.99 tag, but it is a small price to pay for such a large repository of English Premier League information. Hopefully, USA fans of UK’s fantastic soccer teams will pick up on this app, as it certainly offers a great way to keep track of one’s favorite EPL teams while living on this side of the Atlantic.
PTSoccer EPL iPhone app requires iOS 4.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
