PlayUp: iPhone App Written and Video Review
Do you like sports? Can you just not get enough discussion about, much less statistics and scores? Or on the other hand, do you follow a number of sports across several leagues in several nations, and just want a convenient way to track them all from your iPhone? No matter what your needs—social or otherwise—PlayUp by developer PlayUp USA is easily one of the best ways we’ve ever seen to track your favorite leagues on your iPhone, and with less hassle, to boot. For our full review of this stellar stats tracker for the iPhone, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Functionality
On a surface level, PlayUp looks to be just like any other sports tracker for the iPhone, though maybe with a few more sports options than a few of the other titles we’ve looked at in the past. For instance, the app allows you to track every sport from hockey to baseball right back down to cricket and the Australian Football League. Not to mention European Football (we didn’t dare forget it, mates) including our beloved Premier League. In other words, if you’ve been looking for a sports tracker that can handle all of your various sports needs, PlayUp is a shoe-in.
But what we really like about PlayUp is its focus on the social aspect of sports. The app ties directly into the social networking tools that you use on a daily basis, including Twitter and Facebook. Once attached to these networks, you are free to discuss with friends and other PlayUp users the games and leagues you follow. It’s really quite inventive, and the way it’s been structured within PlayUp allows you to have a discussion with just about anyone concerning a game, score, etc. The app even offers up highlights from the existing conversations, which is a nice touch for promoting community and chat.
Design and Layout
Best of all, though the app itself looks fantastic on the iPhone. We loved the clean, precise interface, from the warm color scheme right down to the ability to favorite specific sports and leagues. The app makes it easy and simple to get where you’re trying to go, and we also liked the option to attach our Facebook and Twitter accounts to PlayUp. It saved us from yet another log-in to remember, and it also encouraged us to involve our friends from Facebook in our discussions. And, of course, we’re just happy the AFL has been represented. Good on ya, mates.
We’ll spin it to you this way: PlayUp is completely free in the App Store. Yes, you can enjoy all of the benefits of this brilliant, socially-oriented sports app without putting up a dime in return. The app is gorgeous, works like a champ, and offers all the sports and leagues you could ever want. Do we need any other reason to recommend PlayUp to the dedicated iOS sporting sports fan?
PlayUp requires iOS 4.1 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. A small expedite fee was paid by the developer to speed up the publication of this review.
